December 2018
It’s that time of the year again — the time to celebrate the holiday season with friends and family, and cherish special moments of laughter and joy.

Even though the holiday season is happy for many of us, for some it can spark feelings of distress and anxiety.  Let me share with you the story of Samuel, age nine, who longed to feel connected to his friends and family, but couldn’t understand his emotions and was disruptive and lashed out in social settings. By the time he and his family joined the SNAP® Boys program, these conflicts had escalated; Samuel had no friends and his parents were feeling helpless and struggling with their own mental health concerns.

Over the course of a year in the SNAP® Boys program, Samuel and his family saw their lives turn around. By participating in group sessions, parent counselling and in-home visits, they learned how to communicate and solve problems together. Samuel can now discuss how he feels and is able to accept responsibility for his behaviour. He has learned how to make friends, has joined extracurricular activities, and is doing well in school. Most of all, Samuel is happy!

Thanks to you, we are filling a vital gap in the children’s mental health system, and children like Samuel and his family will be enjoying a holiday season filled with laughter and joy. What a great gift to give!

Wishing you and yours a warm and wonderful Holiday Season and a prosperous New Year.
