  Buffalo Renaissance Foundation        Winter 2014-2015

DEAR FRIENDS, BENEFACTORS, SUPPORTERS AND FELLOW DIRECTORS, Happy New Year from the Buffalo Renaissance Foundation!

As my first year as President of the Buffalo Renaissance Foundation (BRF) winds down, I can say that the Foundation is thriving and poised to continue to move Buffalo Forward.

We made the largest gift of our 33-year existence, a $50,000 five-year pledge to the John R. Oshei Children's Hospital, a significant event in the Foundation's history.

We held record luncheon and golf events that will benefit Western New York charities in 2015 as a result of the tireless efforts by both committees. The Foundation focused on four core areas during 2014: education, cultural art and tourism, veterans, and outreach. We continue striving to provide those organizations in need with funding to complete vital projects. We announced after our spring retreat that in 2015 we will launch our first-ever "community-based project."

I'd like to take this time to thank all of our sponsors who supported our events in 2014, and ensure you that every dollar raised is re-circulated back into our Western New York community.

BRF Holds 32nd Annual Golf Tournament

In September, the Buffalo Renaissance Foundation (BRF) held its 32nd annual Golf Tournament at beautiful Niagara Falls Country Club. The event was held on a Thursday afternoon with 120 golfers on the course that is home to the major amateur event, the Porter Cup.

Chairmen Art Wingerter and Tom Quatroche reported at the October Board meeting that the event raised record revenues and will help benefit next year's grant appropriations by a significant amount. Thanks to our volunteers from Univera who once again manned our registration table and did a terrific job!

Seventh Annual Veterans Luncheon Honors Four Students

On Friday, November 8, the BRF held its seventh annual Veterans Luncheon in the Fireplace Room of The Buffalo Club. The luncheon provides proceeds to be used for college scholarships for returning veterans. The 2014 scholarship recipient was Mr. Ian Millermohn, a student at D'Youville College.

The 2013 honoree, Mr. Ian Drullard, a student at D'Youville, also received scholarship funds at the luncheon. Mr. Drullard, a Navy SEAL participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, plans to remain in the Buffalo area to raise his family.

Ms. Morgan Woodson, a student at Medaille College and the 2012 recipient, and Mr. Frank Grillo, a Daemon College student and the 2011 recipient, were also recognized for their continued studies and both received their annual scholarship funds from the BRF.

The luncheon keynote speaker was Lieutenant Commander Patrick Griffin.

Once again, directors Moe Naylon and Gary Stott and Executive Director Scott McManigle put together a quality event that will benefit future veterans' scholarship recipients.
