THE LAVENDER EFFECT® Launches the Oral History Project!
The Oral History Project (OHP) is videotaping historical testimonies from Southern California's LGBTQ community. The OHP is documenting integral participants or witnesses to historic events and movements, including our supportive allies. These interviews are being produced at the highest standards possible utilizing the USC Shoah Foundation's video history guidelines.
The California FAIR Education Act, due to take effect in 2015, will require public schools to implement curricula that teach the contributions of LGBTQ people throughout history. The OHP will directly address this need by documenting living testimonies. Interview topics will include the people and milestones for social change, the nature of human sexuality, gender versus identity, and the contributions of a sexual minority. These diverse subjects will help empower LGBTQ youth, as well as help reduce bullying, depression, and suicides.
The OHP is being researched and produced by an experienced and professional team. We are partnering with community activists, LGBTQ historians, and production specialists to interview the people that help shape the freedoms we enjoy today.
YOU can help capture the stories of a culture and get the following perks:
Production Assistant - $100: Helps pay for craft services and you receive an OHP DVD.
Associate Producer - $500: Finances an intern and you receive a production credit and OHP DVD.
Producer - $1,500: Finances a young professional and you receive a production credit and OHP DVD.
Executive Producer - $3,500: Finances an OHP Interview and you receive a production credit and OHP DVD.
ALL support is welcome and will help inform future generations. Our ultimate goal is to create a state-of-the-art LGBTQ Museum and Cultural Center. However, we need to capture the stories of a generation of pioneers before they vanish.
