We are all aware of the very unfortunate situation which has been spiraling out of control across Jewish communities, especially in the Tri-State area. In conjunction with our security consultants, we are implementing a number of updates to be effective immediately.
Firstly, we are installing an automatic lock on the front door to ensure that the door stays locked at all times. Access will only be available through the combination lock and there will be no need to remember to lock the door behind you after you enter. If you are in need of the combination please contact one of the gabbaim.
Secondly, we will be hiring an armed guard for Shabbos morning from before davening until the end of kiddush (approx 8:15- 11:45). Although a year ago this was not deemed a necessary precaution, rather a luxury, the sad reality is that this is no longer the case. We must do whatever is needed from a normal Hishtadlus standpoint to protect our families and friends.
This arrangement has a cost, which is more challenging for a small Shul like ours. This is true especially in a time where we are looking to build and every extra dollar we have is being allocated toward this goal. However, as we all know safety is the number one priority.
To put things simply: There are approximately 60-65 days of Shabbos and Yuntif throughout the year. We also have about 65 families currently in BTU. The cost per Shabbos is about $160 (45 dollars an hour for 3.5 hours).
This will come out to an assessment of approximately $150 per family for the year. We will be collecting this money in two intervals (Jan. and June) in order that we can re-assess in 6 months from now.
We are asking each family for $75 to cover the security until July, when our security team will reevaluate the current situation.
, please respond in a timely matter as this is a matter of extreme importance.
