Fiber Arts Workshops Offered

Hanford Mills Museum is offering two workshops in July. On Saturday, July 18 from 10 am – 3pm, Chris Consler will teach a Twining Workshop, where you can learn how to turn old rags into useful and durable rugs. Twining is an ancient craft, likely predating weaving and pottery making, and can be adapted to make a variety of textiles.  Chris, a founding member of the Woolgatherers at the Mill, has several years of experience in fiber arts and crafts, and is excited to share her knowledge and creations. Registration, which includes materials and use of tools, is $25. No experience needed. The Twining Workshop is limited to eight participants and intended for ages 12 and up.  Advance registration is required by July 16 by calling 607-278-5744 or by email. Participants should bring a bag lunch.Twining looms will be available for purchase after the workshop.

On Saturday, July 25, Hanford Mills will offer a Drop Spindle Wool Spinning Workshop from 10 am to 3 pm. Using a technique that dates back hundreds of years, Amanda Manahan will teach participants how to turn wool into yarn. Drop spindles are an affordable and portable way of spinning. The workshop will focus on the  basics of spinning, with the option to learn more advanced techniques and wool processing. No experience needed; intended for ages 12 and up. Registration, which includes materials and a drop spindle to take home, is $30. Advance registration is required by July 23 by calling 607-278-5744 or by email. Participants should bring a bag lunch.
