5 local doctors recognized for immunization rates of children
01/12/16 LICKING COUNTY, OHIO – The Licking County Health Department recognizes local physicians each year for outstanding immunization rates among patients. Health Commissioner Joe Ebel recognized Licking Memorial Family Practice Doctors Garth Bennington, M.D., Talya Greathouse, M.D., Marita Moore, M.D., Pattye Whisman, M.D., and American Health Network Pediatrics Dr. William Knobeloch, M.D., for demonstrating that 90 percent of their patients were fully immunized by age two in 2015.

Ensuring that young children receive all of their immunizations on time protects babies and toddlers from diseases such as polio, whooping cough, tetanus and measles. In the 1980s, a resurgence in the number of measles cases and deaths revealed that many children were not immunized. This led the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to mount a nationwide campaign to promote on-time immunizations.

“Communities with strong immunization practices and high immunization rates are ultimately healthier communities” said Ebel. “We are extremely thankful for local providers who recommend immunizations to their patients.”

LCHD, along with the CDC, strive for the goal of having at least 90 percent of all children fully immunized by age two. For more information about immunizations, visit www.lickingcohealth.org.

“The Licking County Health Department serves more than 160,000 citizens in the Licking County General Health District by preventing disease, protecting the environment and promoting healthy lifestyles with a vision of healthy people living in healthy communities.”
