Welcome!

The holiday season is in full swing with Christmas just around the corner and the New Year quickly approaching! With so many gifts to buy and gatherings to attend, it may seem easier to ditch your wellness routine and go with that extra cookie or holiday latte to make it through the day. Consider these tips from the American Heart Association for your healthiest holiday season yet!

1. Go in with a Plan. Set a short term goal. Plan for 3 weeks of healthy breakfasts and lunches with 30 minutes of moderate activity daily.
2. Beware of Party Perils. Watch the sugary and salty treats as they can be a concern for those with high blood pressure. If you are hosting, consider challenging yourself to whip up a heart-healthy menu!
3. Stay Active. Even in the hustle and bustle of the season, include the whole family in active chores, tidying up the house or shoveling the driveway. Opt for a light lunch, extra vegetables, and a vigorous walk if dinner is going to be a feast.
4. Don’t Overdue It. Give yourself the gift of peace. Overbooking your holiday calendar is no fun physically, mentally, or socially. Protect your schedule and your holiday season.
5. Lay out a Plan for January, February, and Beyond. Consider outlining realistic steps for the new year. For example, instead of a gym membership, consider starting your own vigorous walking program first. It is free, and an excellent way to fit in more physical activity.

Sincerely,
Licking County Wellness Coalition
