Health Department receives $2,000 from Delta Dental Foundation to improve oral health in the county
01/27/2016 LICKING COUNTY, OHIO – The Licking County Health Department recently received $2,000 from the Delta Dental Foundation to help the department’s Partners in Wellness program. The Partners in Wellness Program provides third grade students the skills and knowledge to enable them to make healthy decisions that are best for them.

This free, comprehensive year-long wellness program is offered to approximately 1,900 third grade students, in 75 classrooms, in 12 school districts within the county. The program covers all aspects of wellness including physical, social and emotional health. Half-hour classroom presentations are delivered once every two weeks.

“Children miss 51 million hours of school every year because of oral health related issues, and adults miss 164 million hours of work each year because of time spent dealing with their own dental health problems,” said Teri Battaglieri, Delta Dental Foundation director. “Because early prevention is key to avoiding serious oral health issues, we are supporting Partners in Wellness to increase access to dental care and provide much-needed oral health education to underserved children and adults.”

The Delta Dental Foundation is focused on ensuring that children and adults in Ohio receive high-quality oral health education and high-quality dental care. Through its Brighter Futures initiative, Delta Dental is committed to improving people’s oral and overall health and well-being through advocacy, education and philanthropy.

The Delta Dental Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable organization established in 1980, which serves as the philanthropic arm of Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and North Carolina. The foundation’s goals are to support education and research for the advancement of dental science, and to promote the oral health of the public through education and service activities, particularly for those with special needs.
