What's new:

New Staff

We want to officially welcome our new teachers on staff this year, Ms Jordan, Mr. Alec and Ms. Leah. They are all amazing dancers with an even bigger passion for teaching!!! We are so excited to have them join our Excel family and can't wait for you to get to know them this year.

New Adult Classes

Our adult classes officially start this weekend, Oct 6th, with Body Blast!!!! An amazing class with a mix of strength, cardio, zumba and booty barre that will have you so excited to come back and work more because it is so much fun too!! We are also offering adult tap again too, yay!!!! The dates will alternate and some Saturdays we will will not have classes due to Holidays or Nutcracker, so check out our schedule in the email coming your way about adult classes or on our FB page!! They are only $10 a class and run Saturdays from 10-11. We hope to see a ton of you there!!!

New Classes

Hey students 12 and up!!! Did you know we are offering new classes on Saturdays that are amazing and fun?!!!!!
  • Ballet technique class runs Saturdays from 10-10:45 and does not do a dance for recital. We focus only on growing your technique and getting stronger by building on the basics. There are a few spots left and this class runs as an add on to your schedule so let us know if you are interested in growing your ballet technique. Anyone 12 an over is welcome!
  • Strength and conditioning class on Saturday from 9:15-10am. This class is awesome and full of ways to build your strength while also learning skills that will help you achieve your goals. This class is run as a drop in. If you are 12 or older, anyone is welcome and it's only $10 a class for the weeks you are able to make it. We will have to limit the class size so if you can call ahead that would be great!
Both classes of Ballet technique and Strength and Conditioning alternate between 7 teachers so you will have an opportunity to learn something new and different from a different teacher every 6-7 weeks!!! Its an awesome opportunity and classes have been well received and filling up!! We hope you can join us!

Excel's Family Focus!

We are so excited to help our students understand our three focus words at Excel a little better this year! Education, Community and Culture are our mission words that describe our studio and each month we will dig in a little to what they mean at Excel. We are excited to do this with all classes and find ways to relate the topic to each - age 3 and up! Here is our focus for October:
  • Education - We will be learning about different people in the world of ballet, tap and jazz this month that put their mark on the dance map. Ballet - we will be learning about Diana Vishneva, a current ballerina for the Russian Mariinsky Ballet and performing as their Snow Queen. Tap - we will be learning about Peg Leg Bates, he taught himself to tap dance with a wooden leg after losing it in a cotton gin accident at the age of 12. Jazz - we will be learning about Frank Hatchett, an amazing dancer who had the privilege to not only inspire young dancers but also to perform with Sammy Davis Jr, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra.
  • Community - This month we will focus on raising money for our sponsor child Jancinto. He is 4 and has been fighting Leukemia for over a year. He lives with his family in South Haven with his parents and 7 other brothers, one also who has a trach and feeding tube with a disorder similar to cerebral palsy. The family is hoping to use the funds raised to put towards medical bills as well as a new furnace since they do not have one and the cold winters are hard with just a stone stove. We are hoping to have a huge turn out for the Nutcracker tea where all the funds go to his family as well as some additional fund raisers and raffles we will hold for them as the show and tea party approach. We are excited to share with the kids about giving back through dance!
  • Culture - The word this month is UNIQUE!! What makes us unique as dancers as well as people and how being ourselves makes us special. We will dive into this topic for each age group a little differently but we are excited to dig a little deeper with our older students to see how they perceive themselves as unique and sharing what is awesome about themselves. We will also take this opportunity to remind them that dancers come in all packages and all are awesome!!! Sometimes we may see a dancer in our class that is really tiny and short and think hey....why is there an 8 year old in our class, when in reality the dancer is 12. We will remind them that judging others on size or height can be hurtful as we wouldn't want someone to judge us on our size either. Sometimes in the beginning of the year we see the kids measure up to each other and we will help them see that we all come in different packages and need to meet the person on the inside first that is unique and awesome!

Nutcracker Tickets!

Nutcracker Tea tickets go on sale this Saturday, Oct. 6th, and we are so excited!!!! These tickets must be purchased at the studio since they are fundraiser tickets. All profits will go to Jacinto, our sponsor child with Leukemia and his family! Please let us know if you have any questions about the tea before opening day as we anticipate a great turn out!
Nutcracker show tickets go on sale Saturday, Oct 13th and will be on sale through Dance Recital Ticketing! This year' show is going to be amazing!!! You won't want to miss out on getting tickets!!

Opt-in Texting

As winter approaches and as we have learned, so does crazy power outages lol, we would like to make sure we have you in our texting messaging that lets you know if the studio needs to close due to an emergency like the power outage that happened a few weeks ago or if there is inclement weather. Please see Ms. Karly, at the front desk, if you haven't signed a form and make sure you are good to go before the flying of the snow!

Parking Lot Safety

I always like to remind families this time of year of our parking lot etiquette and requirements by our local fire department. Please remember if pulling up front to drop off or pick up, you will need to find a parking space as it blocks cars from entering the one way loop. There is a small spot to quickly drop off or pick up in the back but please be cautious to not stay there too long. Also, if you see the line is backed up a little and would prevent cars from exiting the east side of the slope, you will need to find a parking spot to have your dancer meet you. The fire department has let us know this is an exit violation and I wouldn't want anyone to be ticketed for sure. Also, for safety, parking helps the kids know that the cars are not moving and when it gets dark, it gives me peace of mind that they are all safe. Please be extra careful as we are even more busy during peek week as well. I appreciate your help in keeping our kids safe!!

Love, Ms Katie
