Salka Archipelago
A limited edition book with master printmaker Bud Shark
Ana Maria Hernando and Kenneth Robinson first met while studying and traveling with their friend and teacher, Don Américo Yábar, in the mountains of Peru in 2005. There they learned of one another’s love of poetry and, over the subsequent years, a number of creative collaborations and spoken word performances followed. Now they have created a handmade book of art and poetry called “Salka Archipelago”, and are happy to announce that in late April they will have the pleasure of collaborating with master printmaker Bud Shark, of Shark's Ink, to create a limited edition of this book.
In Quechua, the language of the Andes, salka refers to “undomesticated energy”–energy that is free both in nature and within ourselves--the fountain from which artists and saints drink. Once the limited edition prints are completed, Ana and Kenneth will create a bilingual book of poems that they hope will be charged with, and reflective of, this quality of energy. They plan to offer this second book to the public through museums, publishers, and other venues.
