WOMEN OWNING IT ONLINE

It’s finally here! The series I’ve been working on for the last few months. It’s called No Filter: Women Owning it Online (and it might be my favorite thing we’ve ever done).

Because since the #metoo movement, we’re all rethinking what it means to be a woman in the world. But what about what it means to be a woman on the web? To find out, we teamed up with New York Magazine’s The Cut.

Today, our launch episode. Every day next week, a new conversation with a badass woman about the highs and lows of living online. And how they've bent the internet to their will. Trust us, you don’t have to be a woman for this series to be a must-listen.

LISTEN. SERIOUSLY.

GENERATION WOMEN

Our intergenerational approach to No Filter was inspired by something specific: a live storytelling event called Generation Women. Every month, women from their 20s to their 80s share stories on a theme. I did Generation Women back in October and loved it so much that we invited them to team up for this special episode. It’s in your feed today too, and it’s a delight. The theme is My Digital Revolution, with tales from the wellness editor at Teen Vogue, Kathy Tu from the Nancy podcast, and Chirlane McCray, the first lady of New York. And the most baller septuagenarian you’ve ever heard. For real.

READING ABOUT CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA

A year ago, we did an episode on Cambridge Analytica and what they did - and didn’t - do for the Trump campaign. That story BLEW UP over the weekend. Seems like CA collected a lot more data than they let on. Like, from 50 million Facebook users, most of whom did not give CA permission. Facebook says this wasn’t a data breach - it was an abuse of their terms of use. Which is worse?! Oh, and Cambridge Analytica was caught on tape discussing sting operations on politicians, including offering bribes and prostitutes. Good times.

YOU. UNFILTERED.

It wouldn’t be a Note to Self series without your voice. How do YOU portray yourself online? How does the internet mess with your head? How do you mess back? Let us know. We have a new way to share your thoughts - you can record a message in your browser, from your phone. Or send a voice memo by email, like normal.

And next week, every day Monday through Friday, we’ll have a brand new episode of No Filter for you. It’s so good, you guys. So good.

#ownit,

Manoush
