April 2016 - Events, Farewells,
and New Projects

Spring has officially arrived and, with that, CGC finds itself in the throws of organizing our spring (and summer) events. This month we are busy preparing for the Taste of Spring FundraiserBill Jones, of Deerholme Farm, along with the Cowichan Chef’s Collaborative, have kindly offered to host this fundraiser in CGC's honour. Taking place on May 1, 2016 at the Old Firehouse Wine and Cocktail Bar, this afternoon event will be a long table affair, with individual courses paired with local wine and cider. This year’s menu will be designed and prepared by Bill Jones, Dan Hudson (Hudson’s on First), Fatima da Silva (Vinoteca), Ian Blom (Old Firehouse Wine and Cocktail Bar), and Marissa Goodwin (Organic Fair). All proceeds will go to upgrading CGC's community kitchen. Tickets are available online, at CGC's store and at the Old Firehouse Wine and Cocktail Bar. $115 each.

We are also happy to announce that we are recruiting garden hosts for our 7th annual Edible Garden Tour! This year's event will take place on Saturday, July 9th and the theme will be water-wise gardening. If you have an inspiring edible garden in the Cowichan Region that you are interested in showcasing, please contact Alyssa Loucks, event coordinator, at or 250-748-8506.

Lastly, it is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to our amazing Cowichan Agricultural Training (CAT) program supervisor, Stephanie Cottell, and the CAT interns. Their program has come to an end and we wish Steph and her team of farmers much joy as they embark on new adventures. Yet, as one program ends another program starts. Accordingly, we would like to introduce the new SkillsLink team including Adrian Tomei, the Project Supervisor, and interns Morgan, Karen, Talia, and Valerie. Welcome to the team!

We wish everyone a sunny month ahead.

In gratitude,
CGC Team
