Dear Families,
I hope you have had a great weekend. We are certainly moving right along this school year. It's hard to believe that we are already in November!
This Tuesday is Election Day, and we will be conducting our next Explorer Day. As a reminder that morning students will log into their morning meeting at 8:00. After morning meeting their assignments will be posted for them to complete. Our staff will be participating in an important CRAS, emergency response, training that morning.
Later in the week six of our nine grade levels have expeditions, so make sure to review your class newsletter for your child's specific date in order to make sure he/she is in the correct uniform on that day.
I'm looking forward to seeing you this week.
Sincerely,
Mike

Principal

News from the Executive Director
|
|
|
The Museum School's Board of Directors is in the process of drafting a new strategic plan and is eager to hear from stakeholders. Look for a survey soon that asks these TMS-based, strategic-minded questions - What is important to you? What matters to you? These questions are designed to get your feedback on the overall vision and strategy of the school. Keep in mind - daily, operational feedback is best given through school-based surveys and questionnaires.
We expect to share the new strategic plan at the May 2023 State of the School Address. Thank you for your support. For your reference, the current strategic plan can be found here.

NEWS FROM TMS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
3 THINGS TO KNOW
RECRUITMENT
We are always searching for parents/caregivers and members of the community that are interested in joining our board level committees. As a reminder, these committees include Finance, Diversity, Facilities and Governance. We especially need individuals with professional finance experience. Please reach out if you are interested in joining a committee. The deadline for Board applications is November 7.
STRATEGIC PLAN
It is time for the Board to start developing a new strategic plan. It is important for us to receive input from our stakeholders as this plan is created. Please be on the lookout for a survey soon.
EXPLORER DAYS
Did you know that the teachers and staff approached the Board last year requesting virtual learning days that could be used for planning and professional development? They shared with us the extraordinary amount of time they spend on teaching, planning and meeting with colleagues and caregivers and the challenges they face in fulfilling all their obligations. Since we are bound by law to deliver a minimum number of instructional days a year, they requested that the administration build in some virtual days to allow them additional time to plan, coordinate, and learn. Although this operational request did not require a Board vote, we did offer our full support and hope you will too. Our teachers have an extremely challenging job, and it is our job as administrators and Board members to give them all the tools they need to do their best at educating our students.

Gifted Assessment for Grades 3-8
Museum School students are considered for possible gifted assessment each year beginning in first grade. Currently, the assessment process is being completed for 2nd grade students. Screening and assessment for 1st grade students will take place during the second semester.
Students in grades 3-8 who were not assessed last year and who have a Reading or Math MAP score of 90th percentile or above since August 2021 have screened into the assessment process. Families of these students received information by email during the week of October 24. If you did not receive this information and would like to request assessment for your student, please complete the Guardian Request for Testing form by Tuesday, November 8. Thank you!

Hi all,
For the 3rd grade parents: over the next month or so we will be starting our annual vision and hearing screens on all of the 3rd graders. It will just take a few minutes and we will do a few a day. If you prefer for your child not to have a screen, please reach out to me and let me know so I can make a note of this.
|
|
|
For the 6th and 8th grade parents: we will be starting our scoliosis screenings as well over the next month. I have sent home a letter and form for you to look over. Please fill out this form if you wish to opt out of the screening, otherwise we will screen all students a few a day over some weeks.
I also wanted to let everyone know that I have reached out by phone to all of the parents I have with students who have medications here that are taken daily as well as all students that I have an epi-pen for in the clinic. If your child has an epi-pen and you have not heard from me, please reach out to me asap so we can make sure we get one in the clinic or to make sure we have one with the student or in their classroom.
Lastly, I know we have definitely started in on fall and fall sickness. We have already begun to have quite a few viruses going around in all grades. Please help us and your child by keeping them home when they are not well. Please reach out at any time with questions or concerns. I hope everyone stays well!
