Dear Families,

Well, we certainly had a "sticky situation" on Friday morning at the Village Meeting. I hope the students enjoyed seeing the eggs smashed onto my head. I'm going to have to start re-evaluating these principal challenges. I think they get stickier with each new one. In all seriousness, though, I am excited about the improvements we will be making to the outdoor basketball court. It is well worth it!

We are just a week away from the Thanksgiving Break. If your family will be traveling or seeing family during the Thanksgiving Break, we recommend that you COVID test prior to returning to school. Please see Nurse Rollins' update below regarding free COVID tests available for pickup this week at TMS.

We have another eight expeditions occurring this week, so it is sure to be an exciting few days before the break. Once we return from the break we will begin our winter MAP testing window. Your grade level and homeroom newsletters will include your Explorers' specific testing dates. From there we are only a couple short weeks away from our Unit 2 Exhibit Nights.  Below is a schedule for those evenings, so you can begin planning.

I also want to encourage everyone to not miss out on our performances of Willy Wonka on December 2nd and 3rd. The students and staff are working incredibly hard, and I know it is going to be a big hit!

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in the morning, as we kick off another week. However, please make sure to read the following very important arrival announcement. Each morning there are an increasing number of students who are being dropped off on the front sidewalk prior to 7:30 to just wait until the doors are open. This is very unsafe as the students are unmonitored and there are moving vehicles right next to them. If your students needs to be at school prior to 7:30, then you should make use of the before care option. Any students dropped off prior to 7:30 will not be allowed to wait on the sidewalk. Those students will be brought into before care and families will be charged the $5 before care fee for that day. Please help us to keep our students as safe as possible in the morning.

Sincerely,

Mike

Principal

News from the Executive Director
The Museum School's Board of Directors is in the process of drafting a new strategic plan and is eager to hear from stakeholders. Look for a survey soon that asks these TMS-based, strategic-minded questions - What is important to you? What matters to you? These questions are designed to get your feedback on the overall vision and strategy of the school. Keep in mind - daily, operational feedback is best given through school-based surveys and questionnaires.

We expect to share the new strategic plan at the May 2023 State of the School Address. Thank you for your support.  For your reference, the current strategic plan can be found here

As you clean out closets to prepare for the holidays, please consider donating gently used children's clothing, toys, and books for the sixth grade service project. Sixth graders have been learning about refugees and immigrants in ELA and Social Studies, and we'll be hosting a free holiday shop for the Atlanta immigrant community on Buford Highway. Please send all donations to Ms. Peyton's classroom by December 5. You can find more information about what we need here.

Hi parents,
We just wanted to make sure everyone is aware that TMS has free COVID tests if needed that can be checked out at any time for home use. We will also be ordering extra this week and we will have them for pick up at the front office, the front door car pool pick up time as well as the K-4th grade drop-off and pick up area. We will have these out next Thursday and Friday before the break and are recommending if you are traveling or seeing family for the break that you test prior to coming back.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe this year!
