Dear Parents,

As we continue to grapple with so many unique challenges during this trying time, The Museum School understands that a top priority for you as parents is not only the academic growth but also the social/emotional (S/E) growth and opportunities for your child. While TMS is committed to prioritizing our student's S/E needs through multiple virtual learning experiences, we also want to serve as a resource for you as you explore some opportunities outside of the schoolhouse.

Parents across the country, independent of their local schools, are exploring creative ways to meet their child's social, emotional, and academic needs AND family child care needs. In response to your needs, TMS is passing along ways in which you may partner with other families in a safe and thoughtful way. Our goal is to simply provide space for our parents to collaborate and partner together outside of the scheduled TMS learning schedule.

There are MANY ideas for families that are looking for creative ways to support their child and family. TMS is not endorsing, recommending, or requiring any plan; we simply hope to serve as an information source for your family. Check out some of these ideas and helpful resources here.

Keep these helpful tips in mind as you consider these ideas:

  • Start this process by identifying what you want to accomplish through these pods, groups, cohorts, etc. Are your student and family needs primarily social/emotional based, academic based, child-care based, physical-activity based, or something different? Consider these needs as you connect with other families.

  • If you do set up a pod, keep it small. Most resources recommend no more than two families. (And bear in mind that  our hybrid learning model will group students with last names A-K and L-Z. Consider this eventual grouping as you talk with other parents.)

  • Give yourself some space and time to become familiar with your child's schedule before developing specific plans for groups and cohorts. A week or so of virtual learning may help you identify your needs even better--this is new for all of us!

If you would like to opt into a conversation with other parents in your child's class about pods, groups, or any sort of cohorting, please complete this brief survey. Are you unsure about pods but still want to join the classroom community? Please join the conversation by completing the survey! As a reminder, completion of the survey and getting connected with others in your class by no means commits you to participating in a group or cohort.

The survey results will be monitored throughout the month of August so take your time in deciding your level of engagement. We will connect the parents that have opted into their classroom's cohort/grouping conversation through the email address provided in the survey. Look for an email during the first week of August!

Again, please note that our school is simply serving as a knowledge resource center and will not require, recommend, or endorse any specific plan for grouping outside of the daily school schedule. Coming together is always important for our kids, but now it may be more important than ever. I hope you’ll strongly consider opting into this conversation with other families.

Thank you for your trust and support,

Dr. Katherine Kelbaugh

  • Five days’ worth of meals (breakfast and lunch, or lunch only) will be packaged for students to take home.
  • Any Museum School student wishing to have school meals is welcome to come to the school to pick up meals.
  •  No pre-ordering is required.  Just show up either Wednesday or Thursday, between 9am and noon.
  • Meals will be a combination of room temperature/ready to eat and frozen/heat at home.
  • Meals are from our meal vendor, Preferred Meals and follow school nutrition guidelines.  Regular or Vegetarian options are available.  Menus are posted here and in weekly newsletters.
  • Meal prices are the same as last year: $4.00 for full-price lunch ($20.00 for a 5-pack) and $1.50 for full-price breakfast ($7.50 for a 5-pack).
  • Students do not need to be present for meal pick-up - a parent (with ID) can pick up the meals for the student.
Contact The Nutrition Department if you have any questions.  Check out this information sheet for more details.
  • All families should come pick-up a Eureka Math Workbook and Agenda for your Explorer
  • Reserved Chromebooks will also be available for pick-up during these times
  • Purchased SchoolKidz Kits will be available for pick-up during these times as well.  We want you to have access to the school supplies that you purchased while working at home.  You will want to keep these kits together while at home because we will ask for them to come back to the school once we return in person.
