Dear Families,
Happy New Year! I hope that you all have enjoyed the break. It's always nice to step away from the usual grind for a bit. That time allows us to recharge and energize for what's ahead. We will kick off the second half of the school year upon our return. As a reminder, Monday is a staff work day with no school for students. Tuesday is our next Explorer Day with students working virtually. Wednesday will be our students' first day back in person. We are really looking forward to seeing everyone then!
As we kick off the next semester we do so with our eyes toward some important items:
- Our open enrollment season has opened for our lottery. Current students do not have to be entered in the lottery; however, siblings that are not currently enrolled must be entered into the Lotterease platform.
- We are working our way closer to Milestones testing, which occurs in April for our third through eighth grade students. It is not our practice to begin turning all our lessons to test prep, but you will probably notice some additions and small preparations made along the way to help students be prepared for the testing season.
- Speaking of testing and assessment, shortly we will be sending home students' winter MAP assessment results. The reports will allow you to see the progress your student has made so far this year. We have one final administration of MAP still ahead of us in May, so these reports also allow for the setting of goals for the remainder of the year.
- Though currently enrolled students don't have to enter the lottery, you will be required to complete the re-enrollment process. This will begin with a brief survey of your Intent to Return. Please complete that survey by January 30th. This survey is really helpful for us to determine any open spots for the lottery. You will complete the actual re-enrollment paperwork later in the semester.
- Over the course of the first semester we noticed a significant increase in the number of tardy students each day. As a reminder, students are late to school if they are not in their classroom at 8:01. This means when dropping students off in the morning, you should arrive before 8:00 if they are going to have the time to get to their classroom by 8:01. Large amounts of tardy students at arrival means that staff members on duty have to stay out on the sidewalk rather than reporting to their classrooms to support learning. Beginning Tuesday, January 17th the carpool lane will be blocked off at 8:00, so these staff members can report to classrooms. Those arriving after the carpool lane has been closed will be required to park to bring your student to the door.
Wow, the first email back from the December break always has so much in it! Thank you for all your support and efforts to make The Museum School such a wonderful place.
I'm looking forward to seeing you at carpool on Wednesday morning!
Sincerely,
Mike
Mike Stewart
Principal

In an effort to make sure we get you timely information from your TMS Room Leads and PTO, we have created a Google Form to collect Parent Contact Information that can be shared with TMS Families agreeing to participate. If you would like to be part of the shared directory, please complete the TMS Family Directory Form. You will be able to choose whether your information is shared for just PTO information or in the directory for all participants.

Book Return
Let's start the new year with a clean library record! Please look around your homes for any TMS library books and send them in with your student. Ask your students - even middle schoolers! - what they have checked out from the library and where those books are. Then have them put them in their backpacks to return to school. Students are welcome to renew books that they are still reading. Thank you for your help in keeping our books circulating!
