Dear Families,
I trust that your fall conferences have been going well. We really appreciate having these moments to connect around Explorer progress.
It was really neat seeing the different spirit wear items last week for Red Ribbon Week. I think my favorite day was crazy sock day. Some socks were pretty wild!
This week we are back to a pretty normal week. We do have several expeditions planned, so make sure to check below or in your class newsletter to make sure your Explorer is in the correct uniform if you grade is going out.
Over the last week we have seen an increase in illness. The flu and other viruses have been prevalent in ours and the surrounding communities. Please make sure to take precautions to limit exposure, and if your child is ill please do not send him/her to school.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in the morning. Let's have a great week!
Sincerely,
Mike

Principal

News from the Executive Director
|
|
|
Dear Families,
We’d like to update you on some exciting news in our ongoing litigation with the DeKalb County School District. Last week, a Fulton County Superior Court Judge ruled in our favor on all but one of the claims in the lawsuit. Although DeKalb County will likely appeal, this was a major victory and confirms the strong legal foundation for our claims. Here is a press release providing more information on this ruling.
We will keep you updated on any future developments. Thanks as always for your continued support!

NEWS FROM TMS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
3 THINGS TO KNOW
RECRUITMENT
We are always searching for parents/caregivers and members of the community that are interested in joining our board level committees. As a reminder, these committees include Finance, Diversity, Facilities and Governance. We especially need individuals with professional finance experience. Please reach out if you are interested in joining a committee. The deadline for Board applications is November 7.
STRATEGIC PLAN
It is time for the Board to start developing a new strategic plan. It is important for us to receive input from our stakeholders as this plan is created. Please be on the lookout for a survey soon.
EXPLORER DAYS
Did you know that the teachers and staff approached the Board last year requesting virtual learning days that could be used for planning and professional development? They shared with us the extraordinary amount of time they spend on teaching, planning and meeting with colleagues and caregivers and the challenges they face in fulfilling all their obligations. Since we are bound by law to deliver a minimum number of instructional days a year, they requested that the administration build in some virtual days to allow them additional time to plan, coordinate, and learn. Although this operational request did not require a Board vote, we did offer our full support and hope you will too. Our teachers have an extremely challenging job, and it is our job as administrators and Board members to give them all the tools they need to do their best at educating our students.

Gifted Assessment for Grades 3-8
Museum School students are considered for possible gifted assessment each year beginning in first grade. Currently, the assessment process is being completed for 2nd grade students. Screening and assessment for 1st grade students will take place during the second semester.
Students in grades 3-8 who were not assessed last year and who have a Reading or Math MAP score of 90th percentile or above since August 2021 have screened into the assessment process. Families of these students received information by email during the week of October 24. If you did not receive this information and would like to request assessment for your student, please complete the Guardian Request for Testing form by Tuesday, November 8. Thank you!

Hospitality & Spirit Wear
We need a few volunteers to help with some specific PTO Committees. If you have flexibility and like organizing parties, people, and snacks- we need you as our Hospitality Chair. If you like to shop and pick out clothing designs- this position might be for you: Spirit Wear Lead. As spirit wear lead, you will work with the PTO and TMS faculty representatives to select a vendor and spirit wear items for TMS families to purchase. If either of these interest you, or you'd like more information, please email TMS.PTO@themuseumschool.org.

PTO Family Directory
In an effort to make sure we get you timely information from your TMS Room Leads and PTO, we have created a Google Form to collect Parent Contact Information that can be shared with TMS Families agreeing to participate. If you would like to be part of the shared directory, please complete the TMS Family Directory Form. You will be able to choose whether your information is shared for just PTO information or in the directory for all participants.
