The children at Messef Orphanage wish you all a very Happy Easter - and so do we.

We have managed to take a food run for the first two months of the year and we are now planning our Easter visit.  We wish some of you could meet the children, you'd be as committed as we are to helping them.  Most of our supporters over the years have been people who have actually been to Messef and fallen in love with the children and witnessed the needs for themselves.

Whether you have been to Messef or not, please give in our
Easter Appeal and come alongside us to help at this time of year, not with special treats, but with the bare necessities.  The cupboards are bare and the food fund running out, so please give what you can.  Why not think of it as having another child or children to buy an Easter Egg for?

RECENT VISITS
We had a surprise visit from Pastor Altesse
and Renee Anderson in the Dominican Republic in January, when they were here collecting a supply of chairs which had been donated to the church, school and orphanage.

They told us of their hopes and plans to extend the crop production at Messef and to sink a second well up on higher ground.  We will keep you updated on that.

Pastor Quirico took the food to the frontier in January as the situation was still tense with the postponed election.  In February, Annica and Malin from Projekt Barrio Blanco made the trip with him into Haiti and once again the children were blessed by this organization's support.  To see all the photos from their visit, click here. They donated the fantastic bunk beds shown in our last newsletter and have helped in many ways over a number of years now.

Annica met the new teachers recruited to school.  These teachers do not receive a salary so if anyone would like to find out more about sponsoring that area of need, we would be very grateful.  (Perhaps a school could partner with Messef on that).

For a while we were concerned that the children were not attending school as they didn't have uniforms but, on this last visit, Pastor Quirico established that they were all back studying, so that was a relief to hear.  Even in countries where there is so much need, there are some rules that cannot be bent, and compulsory school uniforms is one of them....

WHAT COMES NEXT?
As well as our food run towards the end of March, Julienne and A Serving Heart plan to visit around the same time with Dr. Kerolle, who will once again check on the health of the children.  We still have serious concerns for Wadelin as she is having several epileptic fits a day and is very prone to injuring herself.  If she could be taken to the hospital across the border in Dajabon, we may be able to get a better assessment of her health needs.  Please let us know if you can help.

Soon after that, Julienne will return with a builder who has a heart to help, to plan with the leaders what improvements should be made with the funds donated on #Giving Tuesday.  The most pressing need for the boys' dormitory was met by the surprise visiting team from Puerto Rico, leaving funds available for other much needed work.  We will keep you informed.
NEWS ABOUT SOME FRIENDS OF MESSEF
Melissa, Daniel and Pearl
Just under a year ago we reported on the whirlwind romance and marriage of long time Friend of Messef, Melissa, who married Daniel and made a donation to Messef in lieu of wedding gifts.  Well, they have been blessed in return and recently welcomed their precious new daughter into the world.
Pietranella Elianna Abigail Ransom Leder (PEARL) was born on January 31, 2016 by C-section, weighing 6lbs 5oz. and 20 inches long.  We wish this wonderful couple every happiness with their beautiful baby and are delighted for them.  Pearl is also a very lucky baby to have such amazing parents.
