Member Spotlight:
Matthew Duggan

Member since March 2014
Matthew Duggan is a software engineer employed by VMware. He worked out of the Cambridge, Massachusetts, office until the beginning of 2015, when he and his wife relocated to the Chicago area. Since then, he has been working out of a home office with the same group. Matthew holds a bachelors and masters degree in computer science and has been writing software professionally for over ten years.

Prior to VMware, Matthew worked for Oracle, Copanion, and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division of Newport. These positions have varied a great deal in terms of environment and have served very well in his maturation as a software engineer. In addition to writing software, he has had experience leading small teams of junior engineers and writing research papers. This includes a research paper that was accepted to the national security conference Defcon that studied and presented the security features and weaknesses of American paper money.

I joined Creative Coworking in order to have an office outside of my home, and it has helped a great deal. The facility is great and it has been very helpful in increasing my productivity. It is situated only a few blocks away from where I live, so it is very convenient.

Local Artist Spotlight:
Maike van Wijk

As Chief Marveler at Maike's Marvels, Maike van Wijk creates wall collages incorporating her love of nature, found objects, photography, words, rubber stamps, and encaustics. She also creates steel wire jewelry incorporating waxed paper, vintage ephemera, and decorative wire. Her art is an expression of the joy and gratitude she finds in everyday living, with an aim to share that tranquility with others.

Maike launched Maike’s Marvels in 2011 to focus on the artistic and creative life full time. Since then, her pieces have been exhibited around Chicago in various group shows. After a wax and wire workshop, Maike’s collage work shrunk into necklace pendants, wire collars, bangle bracelets, and earrings, which supplement the collages she continues to create. You can find Maike’s unique gifts on Etsy, at The Collage Cafe, and See Jane Sparkle in Evanston, and at various pop-up events, which she announces in her monthly newsletter and on her web site. She is busy creating new pieces for the March 18 show with Melanie Deal at Creative Coworking.

Maike is Dutch with German family ties, and moved to the United States as a teenager. She serves as the President of FUSEDChicago and is a co-founder of the Network of Entrepreneurial Women, a women’s business group rotating around Chicagoland suburbs on a monthly basis.
