We had our very first student body assembly today. During our assembly, we spoke to the kids about the importance of being kind and having good attendance. Ms. Nikia explained that when your child is caught being kind, they will receive a kindness heart. The class who has the most kindness hearts at the end of the month will receive a class party. The children also learned about upcoming service opportunities, such as a can food and coat drive.
I spoke to the students regarding the importance of good attendance. Good attendance includes being on time and in school. Students were challenged to enter a poster contest where other schools from Orleans Parish compete. I have invited the children to sign the pledge for "Strive for 5." I am sending home information today that will explain this further. In addition to the poster contest, and a pledge where students are asked to sign, the class who has the best attendance for the month, will receive a class party as well.
Important events and upcoming dates:
We had a typo on this weeks TidBits newsletter. In my letter, I stated that Picture Day was on the 8th of this month. Please note that Picture Day is actually on September 18th.
I would also like to clarify a bit of confusion regarding next week's Family Engagement. We will have Family Engagement on September 9th- 11th from 8:15-9:15am. This is an opportunity for parents to come and visit the classroom. You will see some of the things your child will be learning this year, the expectations from the teachers, and much more. This is also a great opportunity to ask any questions that you might have.
Monday, September 9th- Kindergarten & 5th grade
Tuesday, September 10th- 1st & 3rd grade
Wednesday, September 11th- 2nd & 4th grade
Please remember that our web site will be our #1 source of information. Please continue to check the website for all of our upcoming events.
