TETRAMAX Newsletter, February 2020

Dear Colleague,

In the first half of 2020, we will launch the last rounds of TETRAMAX open calls for funded Technology Transfer Experiments (TTX). See below for details on when and how to participate and to submit proposals.

In the meantime, the first batch of experiments by our TTX clients have delivered tangible results. Some of those are covered in a recent article available at CORDIS, which highlights how impact was generated in terms of new energy-saving technologies and products.

It was also my great pleasure to hand over the first TTX Award to the CARROTS project team during the HiPEAC Conference in January in Bologna. CARROTS, with partners from Italy and Slovenia, succeeded in bringing together advanced sensors and a mobile gardening app. This TTX is thus a perfect example of both digitization and pan-European collaboration.

With more and more TTX getting completed, we will focus on maximizing their long-term impact. One instrument for this is the new “investor landing page” on the TETRAMAX web site, which provides the profiles of investor-ready startup teams in a very concise investor-friendly way. Please have a look at and contact us to have your company listed there.

Best wishes!
Rainer Leupers

TISU workshop

The TISU Workshop on 'Transfer to Industry and Start-Ups' offered lessons in technology transfer from start-ups and academics who have managed to bring their products to market with the help of TETRAMAX. Techmo (Poland), INFN (Italy), CEA (France), and dividiti (UK) are some of the companies that shared their experiences on bringing new technologies to the market and managing customer expectations.

Poster session

On the second day of the HIPEAC 2020 conference, TETRAMAX organized a large poster session displaying 27 technology transfer experiments (TTX) and entrepreneurial posters. Almost all TTX from the first and the second Bilateral and Value-Chain calls were present. Additionally, seven TTX from the TETRAMAX consortium partners were presented during the poster session.  These posters were displayed in the reception area of the conference, triggering interesting conversations between TTX presenters and many conference attendees.

TETRAMAX awards CARROTS for outstanding impact on the industry

At the end of the HIPEAC2020 Industry Day, TETRAMAX awarded its first Technology Transfer Experiments (TTX) award. This award highlights experiments with a significant impact on the industry, measured by impact indicators in three different categories: technical, business and financial impact. And the honor of this first award went to Carrots for their outstanding innovative technology transfer and its impact on the market. Carrots succeeded in bringing together Lifely's advanced sensors and Tomappo's social app, improving the existing digital gardening solutions for end-users. On behalf of all the partners from the Carrots experiment, Katiuscia Zedda received the award from TETRAMAX coordinator Rainer Leupers.

TETRAMAX partner Techmo builds speech synthesizer "Masza"

Techmo implements business solutions in the field of speech technology, natural language processing and sound virtualization.  The latest achievement is called "Masza", a speech synthesizer.  Masza offers a natural tone of voice that is a faithful copy of the real speech. As Masza uses the deep learning technology, it takes up very little disk space because there is no need for audio database storage in the finished product.
Check out the video in which Masza explains what Tetramax is!
