Dear <<First Name>>,
Looking forward to seeing you in three days time at the vigil for Giulio Regeni at 6pm on Saturday 25 January on Kings Parade, Cambridge CB2 3PQ to mark the fourth anniversary of his death.
Four years ago, Cambridge PhD student Giulio Regeni was researching independent trade unions in Egypt when he disappeared in Cairo in January 2016. His mutilated body was found in a ditch outside Cairo on 3 February 2016. The Egyptian authorities have never properly investigated Giulio’s murder and there are widespread concerns that the authorities themselves were responsible for his killing.
Giulio was an Italian national and similar vigils are also set to take place in various towns and cities in Italy, where a high-profile “Truth for Giulio” campaign continues unabated.
In recent years, hundreds of people have been forcibly disappeared in Egypt, with many held for months in unacknowledged detention by state agents.
The Cambridge Independent has picked up the story of the vigil for Giulio Regenia and posted it with pictures of last year's vigil here:
They will run a piece in this week's Cambridge Independent.
We hope you can join us at this vigil and look forward to seeing you there on Saturday 25th January.
