Take Time to Relax

It’s the holidays!  Time to kick back, rest, and relax.  After all, they do call this “The Holidays”.

Well, if you are like most of the people around you, this season is anything but restful.  It seems that we are now officially in the midst of Stress season.

The other day I was walking down a busy street of early shoppers vying for a spot of the sidewalk.  We all had to make space for the slightly worn purple gorilla waving people into an electronics store.  Accenting this was blasting generic holiday music emanating from two other competing stores.  Flashing lights in shop windows and ads projected on the sidewalk and a garbled recorded message rounded out my peaceful walk in just that one block.  Did I mention it was a typical December day of grey, cold rain?  The only emotion I could manage was stress, and I didn’t even venture into a store.

For most of us, managing stress over the holidays is just part of the holidays.  Along with the fun of shopping and shipping there’s juggling visits with family and visits with friends, figuring out meals and events and timing and moving children and parents and spouses around the city and sometimes the continent.

This December, remember to Take Time To Relax.  Plan a couple of your mandatory events as time for yourself.  It’s not easy, since the most needed time to relax is when we don’t have time to relax.  But you can make the holidays more fun for you and everyone around you by taking care of yourself while you are taking care of everyone else.

Have a quick look at your calendar now and find that time so you can reduce your stress.

Happy, stress-less, holidays!  See you in the New Year.
