Paul Huschilt's
Expect Everything

It Might be Cold this Summer

It’s the height of summer here in the Great White North.  Well, sort of Great White.  The white gave way to green gave way to greenish brown.  It’s somewhere in the high 30’s C and the birds and squirrels are heading for shade.  Even the raccoons are trading in their fur coats for Hawaiian shirts.

At the same time, a lot of us are wrapping up in sweaters, jumpers, long sleeved shirts with built-in mittens, and what-have-you to stay warm in over cooled offices.  Have you done a trip to the supermarket lately?  The cart pick-up should also have parka rentals.

It made me think of the waste of resources.  In this case, the obvious is electricity.  The A/C set to ‘suspended animation’ is needless.  But as green as I try to be, I’m thinking more about our own resources - the power we have to work.

Often, we get trapped in an overwork cycle.  We’re so used to being dedicated and giving everything 120% that we can forget that sometimes 100% will do just fine.

It’s not bad to work hard.  I’m not saying that in the least.  But sometimes extra time and effort just becomes the norm.  Is the extra you do giving you and people around you the outcome you want?

This summer, why not plan a pause in your routine and double check that what you are working so hard at is making the best use of your time.

Maybe, just maybe, it’s time to blow less cold air.
