Thank you for taking the time to read this very long email. Lots to cover in the last couple weeks of the season!

Bantam Cup Racers:

Coach Dave, Chris, and I will be at Bantam Cup with your kids. Please join the WhatsApp group! I will provide an update Friday night with meeting locations and will send updates throughout the weekend. This link has information about lift tickets and schedule for the weekend. I'm excited for this fun weekend!

Please check the lists below and make sure I have your child in the right spot.

Please either email me to correct mistakes or fill out the away race form if you have not. If they aren't going to be at either, please send me an email as well. I really need an accurate count and list for staffing purposes.

Saturday (TBA):

Since we will have a very small group on Saturday we will join another group for training. This should provide a fun opportunity for those that are there. I need to get a final count of numbers and also figure out what event we are training! I will send something out by Thursday night with the Saturday plan.

Sunday (GS AM, Freeski PM):

All groups U8/U10/U12
  • Meet at Gold hills at 9:00am for GS training
  • Pick up at the bottom of gold hills at 11:15am
  • Meet at the shacks at 12:45am for free-ski
  • Pick up at the shacks at 3:00pm

Weekend Recap and this weekend's focus

Last weekend provided some great powder and great training! On Sunday, we were able to set two courses on quicksilver as well as two SkillsQuest drills at the bottom. Before gate training, kids also practiced the one-ski skiing that is part of SkillsQuest. Although the Quicksilver chair is very long, this slope was perfect for our focus. The pitch is perfect for working on good turn shape in slalom and the bottom was flat enough for pole jumpers and slip-pivots/edge sets.

This weekend we will work on feeling the "touch" of skiing. I want the kids to understand when to pressure hard (on ice or hard groomers) and when to use soft edging (on soft snow or courses). Part of this is also learning how to ski the ruts of a course by sticking their foot in the rut instead of fighting it. Kids will work on the garland ski drill. Coaches will also work with kids on this while skiing all types of terrain at Crystal!

Last day of CMAC at Crystal is March 19th!!

This will be a fun day with details shared next weekend. For U12s going to Buddy Werner Championships, I encourage you to go to the Apple Cup race. There will NOT be any training at Crystal for U12s March 25 or 26th. Of course, you can freeski on your own as well!

Save the date for season evaluations

We are getting rid of the written evaluations and replacing them with a zoom session with your child's coach. More information to come but I wanted you to put these on your calendar! If you can't attend, make up sessions will be available. U8/U10 will be Monday, March 20th, Thursday March 23rd and Friday, March 25th.  U12 will be the week of April 3rd. Here is the link to the groups and days/times.

Away race registrations

Please refer to the race announcements for information about lift tickets. Some require advance purchase especially for parents.

1. Apple Cup-Mission Ridge-March 25-26- Registration  and the race announcement with information. Register ASAP, I expect this race to fill up and I don't want anyone to miss out!
2. Buddy Werner Championships-Mt. Hood Meadows-March 31-April 2- registration is through your US Ski and Snowboard account, here is the race announcement with lots more information-it is first come, first served for registration so don't delay! The spring pass seems to be the cheapest option for lift tickets.

3. May Day Race -Mt. Bachelor-April 21-23
Information for this is still coming, but we are still over 6 weeks out.
