Textiles and Tesserae Gallery Exhibit Opens July 9
We are excited to showcase the work of over forty artists from throughout the United States and from Argentina in our final gallery exhitit.
For this exhibit we asked for submissions of mosaic or textile art that referenced the other in some way. Mosaics inspired by kimonos or ethnic weaves were suggested, or quilts inspired by mosaics and visa-versa.
The exhibit includes quilts, quilt inspired mosaics, a mosaic inspired by needlework, a mosaic inspired by a Panamaian mola, an Ojo de Dios (god's eye) mosaic, a moslem prayer rug on the loom, Rajasthani carpet inspired mosaics and many more wonderful interpretations of the subject matter.
The exhibit runs from July 9th through August 21st, our final day of operation. Come to celebrate the artists at our Grand Closing Party on August 21st, 4 - 7pm.
Teacher Feature: Randina Casenza
Randi Casenza can’t stop creating! In her 30 plus year career as an artist she’s worked in fabric, paint, paper mache, clay, beads and more. Her mosaic career began at IMA in 2005 when she enrolled in a pique-asiette ‘memory vessel’ workshop and she has never looked back.
Randi’s innovative work has been featured in a solo show and many group shows at IMA. Since 2013 she has taught numerous subjects including 3-D Wedi –a technique for making three dimensional substrates that she created. You can see Randi's work at http://www.randinacasenza.com/.
