September is just around the corner and for many paretns this means frenetically trying to find daycare, shop for back-to-school, sign up for educational and recreational programs, and especially, help children - and themselves - prepare emotionally for the school year ahead. Whether children are already “big kids” in elementary, middle or high school, or little preschoolers, the stressors - and excitement - are similar. And then there are the expenses!
Every parent/caregiver knows that raising a child is expensive. Global News reported that a 2011 article that appeared in the Canadian publication “MoneySense” placed the estimate at $12,824 a year, which adds up to $243,656 over 18 years. Those numbers were then updated by the magazine in 2015 to reflect inflation. The yearly average rose to $13,366.
However, the early years also provide the greatest return on any investment made in quality early childhood programming. KIDCARECANADA focuses on the youngest in society (age 0 to 3). Our quality resources can be accessed free of charge. They support exactly that: quality prenatal and early childhood programs.
In one of our videos Dr. Tom Boyce speaks to the importance of pre-school and how it supports healthy social and emotional development.
