MARRIED MERCHANTS FOLK ART

We welcome back Tom and Margaret DeMarse of Married Merchant's Folk Art to the market this week. Tom and Margaret have been familiar faces at the Duvall Farmers Market for many years, now joining us just a handful of times throughout the season. These married merchants many years ago combined their love for one another with their love for useful art to bring fine furniture and quilted pillows to arts festivals throughout the region, as well as Duvall Farmers Market.

Tom creates solid hardwood rocking chairs, cabinets, memento boxes and benches, using sustainable woods of the Northwest. He uses only wood harvested and milled on private lands to handcraft his unique rustic furniture and boxes. The wood often determines the final shape and texture of the finished piece. With a style based on traditional American folk art, no two pieces are ever alike.

Margaret's wool pillows are designed and hand crafted with a sense of humor, inspired by nature, traditional patterns and a restless mind.  Over the years she has developed her own applique style, each stitch a statement of patience and craftsmanship. Margaret only uses wool purchased from American companies. She loves it when people smile at her pillow designs, and thinks of them more as useful art  than as pillows.
