WINE TASTING AT THE MARKET
Duvall Farmers Market offers two vendors of fine wines, Cedar Ridge Winery and Piccola Cellars, on alternating weeks, and we are pleased to be able to offer wine tasting to our customers.
At Cedar Ridge, winemaking is a minimalist proposition. Winemaker Richard Fairfield listens to the grapes to help them become the wine they want to be. Purchased directly from the growers, the crushed grapes are allowed to cold soak prior to fermentation and oak aging at the winery. Sulfites are used but only in very small amounts. The finished wine is bottled when needed, typically two to three years later. This process results in a full bodied wine with great texture and mouth feel – ready to drink now or lay down for a few years. Cedar Ridge is a small winery in the large basement of Richard Fairfield's Snohomish home, producing a fine variety of fine wines.
Offerings from Cedar Ridge Winery this season include Orange Muscat 2007, a fine dessert wine; Tempranillo, a rich port wine; Shiraz 2012; Merlot 2011 and 2012; Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 and 2012; Clarinet 2012 and Pinot Noir 2012.
Piccola Cellars journey began with a deep respect for tradition. The ancient art of wine in a cask has been adapted to modern times. Piccola Cellars offers “la bolsita” which contains 1.5 liters of delicious Washington State wine produced by award winning winemaker, Victor Palencia. Each tote stays fresh for up to a month after the first pour. Named after the “bolsitas” carried into the vineyard by the farmworkers, this package honors the tradition and terroir of the grapes and the people who tend them.
Piccola's offerings in totes include Pinot Gris 2012 from the famous Otis vineyard, layered with ripe peach and grapefruit. A light golden Chardonnay offers honeysuckle and lime to the nose. Upright Red is a big bold blend dominated by the King – Cabernet Sauvignon and complimented by smooth, silky Merlot. Harvesters is a Rhone Style Syrah and Mouvedre blend, loaded with black pepper and smoky cedar tones but never obscuring the delicious black fruit.
