"Vegan," "Plant-Based," "Starchivore":
What Do You Call Yourself?

Dr. John McDougall explains why he uses the term “starch-based” diet despite that, to some, it has a negative connotation. While we prefer the term “plant-based,” we strongly agree on the need for people to focus on those low fat, starch-based foods that provide sufficient calories for energy – foods like potatoes, sweet potatoes, beans, corn, rice, barley, etc. While leafy vegetables are important in the diet, it’s these low fat, higher calorie foods that provide the energy to fuel the body and allow us to thrive for a lifetime. Excluding these foods, on the other hand, can lead to hunger, cravings, and poor nutrition. Click here to read Dr. McDougall's article.

Curried French Lentils

By Cathy Fisher

This is one of my favorite go-to meals. It’s easy to prepare, all in one pot, and is very flavorful and satisfying. It can be eaten alone as a stew, over some brown jasmine rice, or ladled into steamed corn tortillas with rice for an even heartier meal. View the recipe here.
