Peninsula Link Freeway set to open this Friday 18 January

The Premier of Victoria, Ted Baillieu, has today announced that the brand new un-tolled Peninsula Link Freeway is set to open this Friday morning.

Peninsula Link is the new 27km freeway that connects the south end of EastLink near Frankston to the existing Mornington Peninsula Fwy (which runs from Mt Martha to Rosebud).

There will be nearly 100km of motorway - and no traffic lights - from Hoddle St Collingwood all the way to Rosebud.

Travel times will be slashed Travel time savings will be up to 40 minutes at peak times. Travel times from the south end of EastLink (at the 100km/hr speed limit) will reduce to:
  • 5 minutes from EastLink to Cranbourne Rd
  • 8 minutes from EastLink to Frankston - Flinders Rd
  • 12 minutes from EastLink to Mornington - Tyabb Rd
  • 15 minutes from EastLink to Mornington Peninsula Fwy at Mt Martha
Check out the Peninsula Link travel time calculator.

The EastLink - Peninsula Link interchange will be easy to use (see diagram right) The new exit ramp from EastLink to Peninsula Link is signed "Portsea" and located a few kilometres south of the EastLink - Thompson Rd interchange, and prior to the exit ramp to Rutherford Rd. There are no traffic lights, and the exit ramp from EastLink to Peninsula Link will be quick and easy to use. Please observe the new signage.

Peninsula Link will NOT be tolled It will be free of charge for all motorists.

EastLink tolls will NOT change when Peninsula Link opens The same tolls as currently will apply when passing under each EastLink tolling gantry. EastLink still has the cheapest tolls of any private tollway in Australia - a full length 39km trip on EastLink costs an average of 14 cents per kilometre for a car with a tag.

Yours sincerely
