Subject: Introducing a Streamlined Registration Process for Returning Families

We have listened to your concerns about filling out the same paperwork year after year to re-register your child(ren), and I am delighted to inform you we have removed the annual task of registration for all current students!

Your family will now automatically be re-registered on January 6, 2020. The $200 non-refundable registration fee that has always accompanied re-registration for each family will now automatically be added to what is deducted from your Smart Tuition account in $100 increments February and March.

  1. Because we are removing this additional paperwork, please remember to ensure your family's information is always kept up to date in your SchoolSpeak account. If you need any help doing so, please reach out to Leigh Holzman at
  2. If your child has a sibling that will be attending NCA next school year for the first time, please follow both of these steps:

            - Fill out an application by clicking on "New Student Application 2020-21" on SchoolSpeak.

            - Please submit a copy of the child's birth certificate to or bring it to the main office.

      3. If for any reason, a current student is not returning, the Intent to Not Return Form needs to be submitted by Monday, December 16, 2019, in order to prevent the automatic deduction from taking place. Please click the link to fill out the Intent to Not Return Form.

Please contact Leigh Holzman at , if you have any questions concerning the new registration process.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us Go Green as we seek to streamline processes, and as always, we appreciate you choosing NCA!

🎁🎄🎁NCAPO 2019 Christmas Gift Fund: Angels Among Us! 🎁🎄🎁

This year kicked off with the theme “Angels Among Us.” The NCAPO believes that our teachers are angels caring for our children. They are greatly appreciated for all of their hard work. And not only do we have angels caring for our children but also the environment that they are in; keeping it clean, safe and organized and sometimes keeping us parents organized! Think of all of the individuals that have an impact on our children’s lives big and small. Let’s show them they are loved and appreciated with a small donation to the Christmas Fund. It is the perfect way to give thanks to ALL who care for our children and school. We hope that you will contribute. Please know that participation is optional and the amount you give is entirely up to you. Contributions need to be made by EOD, December 9. More details can be found on the attached flyer here.

You can give to the fund by:

1. School Speak:  Select “Staff Christmas Donation” under Quick Links. Go to the bottom and click on the "next" button. Follow the prompts to complete your gift.

2. Via check payable to NCA in an envelope marked "NCAPO Christmas Gift Fund.”

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving!

NCA Basketball Week #2 Update🐾🏀

5th-grade boys Blue team took an early lead vs ICSJ led by a couple of big buckets by Evan Dumsdorff. As the game progressed, the boys pushed themselves, but ICSJ proved to be too much as the boys lost 27-7.

5th-grade boys White team showed off their passing skills in a back-and-forth game against FXW-Black. And the Wildcats kept the game close with a late run in the 4th but came up just short, 30-27.

4th-grade boys pulled out a close 12-9 win. This victory was this group of young boys' 1st win. Congrats boys and coach Slagle, Barone, and Wyman.

8th-grade girls Skyline team lost to AACA, a challenging team to handle at this point in the year but the girls played hard for four quarters and showed improvements over the first two games. Keep it up, Coach Goode and Coach Coomer.

Coach Kenny and Coomer report that after a pretty rocky start last week, our 6th-grade girls took on another tough St. Ben's team yesterday. We came up short, losing 16-12, but really played our hearts out and looked much more aggressive, much more calm, and much more like a team. If we can keep up this rate of improvement from week to week, we are going to have a great season.

Coach Donna H, Coach Turner, and the 8th-grade boys Lakefront team lost to Matthias last night 36-30, Tyler Turner was a player of the game for NCA.

Preparing for the Christmas Pageant: As is our tradition during the gospel of the Christmas Eve 5:00 pm Family Mass, the kids from St. Gertrude parish will act out the Christmas story.

I will need  Mary, Joseph, shepherds, three kings, and lots of angels. I also need parents to come to the rehearsals and assist with organizing the kids.

Parents need to attend the rehearsal so that when the rehearsal is over, the kids have a ride home. This will count as NCA service hours if you are in need of them.  I am hoping to have two rehearsals in the church after the 10:30 am Mass on December 1 and 15 for 30 minutes each and then one final dress rehearsal on December 22 at 12:30 in the church.

If you and your child are interested in participating in the Christmas pageant this year, please contact me at

November is the Month of Remembrance: In November, we will celebrate All Saints Day and All Souls Day. These Holy Days mark the start of a month-long celebration of remembrance. The Remembrance Altar will be available; everyone is invited to bring a picture or a memento of a loved one to place on it. On All Saints Day, this Friday, November 1, a Holy Day of Obligation, Mass will be held at 7:30 am and 7:00 pm.

Children's Choir: The Music Director at St. Gertrude’s Parish, Ms. Mary Clare Barker, would like to start a children’s choir that would sing a couple of pieces for the All Are Welcome concert on Saturday, November 16 at 7:30 pm. It would also be nice to have the children’s choir sing something at the monthly family Masses at 10:30 in the church.

If your child or children are interested, please email her at Rehearsals will be on Saturdays at 3 - 3:45 in the church. If you can’t make this time on a regular basis, you should not consider being part of the children’s choir. She will also need at least one parent present at every rehearsal as Archdiocesan rules mandate the presence of two adults when in the company of children on church property.

Get your wreaths, swags, and centerpieces from St. Ignatius and avoid the lines and cold weather of December. Prices range from $20 for a 22” Noble Fir Wreath to $31 for a 28” Mixed Evergreen Wreath. The assortment also includes a holiday centerpiece and swag. You can order online at

Change in St. Gertrude Rectory Hours

The Rectory will close at 4:45 pm on Fridays beginning Friday, September 6.

St. Gertrude Religious Ed Teacher Needed
Have you been thinking of a way to give back or make connections at St. Gertrude? Consider becoming a catechist! Catechists teach Religious Education classes, which at St. Gertrude are offered to children in grades 1-8. Classes are taught on

Sunday mornings from 9:00-10:15 am. Other catechists teach brief lessons of faith based on the Sunday readings in our Kids Word program. This takes place during the 10:30 am Masses in Church and is for children in grades K-4.

The goal of catechists is to share their faith and the lessons of God and Jesus by creating age-appropriate lessons, teach the traditions of the church, and build community with the families of their students. Catechists are usually not professional teachers, just willing parents and parishioners who enjoy kids and want to help them grow in a personal relationship with God, participate in the sacraments, and develop a mature conscience and integrate faith in all areas of their lives.

Candidates must either be Virtus-certified or willing to take training that educates participants on the signs of child sexual abuse, the methods, and means by which offenders commit abuse, how to prevent it, and submit to a background check.

Interested in Being Catholic?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process by which adults learn more about the Catholic Church. This free program begins on Sunday, September 8 after the 10:30 am Mass in the Ministry Center and meets until Pentecost.

Many people who begin RCIA are non-Catholics seeking to become Catholic or at least to explore whether Catholicism might be a good home. Those who complete the process and decide to become Catholic are initiated into the Church at the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday. Others who take RCIA are already Catholic but want a deeper understanding of their faith foundation.

The RCIA process does not ask those who have been baptized in another faith to give up their denominational experiences. Rather, the RCIA process seeks to add new colors and designs to their existing faith life tapestry. In addition to attending Mass, the RCIA process includes weekly gatherings of breaking open the Word of God, sharing our stories, and learning about our faith traditions.

For information about the RCIA process at St. Gertrude or to register for the program, contact Kevin Chears at or call the Rectory at 773.764.3621.
