YOUNG WOMEN'S RIGHTS ACTIVISTS - Conversations in Canada | October 1st – October 5th, 2012
MATCH International and the Nobel Women's Initiative are pleased to invite you to join three young women activists from around the world as we discuss important issues facing women's rights in Canada and the Global South. Be part of the conversation at any one of our free events being held in Regina, SK; Winnipeg, MB; and Ottawa, ON.
Maria Luisa Aguilar Rodriguez | Mexico   Aghssan Barghouthi | Palestine   Walaa Salah Mohamed Abdelrhman | Sudan
Maria Luisa holds a BA in International Relations and an MA in Theory and Practice of Human Rights from the University of Essex, England. As a consultant for the Women's Institute of San Luis Potosi, she worked on projects for implementing local and national legislations focused on eradicating violence against women. Maria Luisa currently works as an officer on the international unit at the Human Rights Centre, 'Tlachinollan'.   With a degree in Journalism, Aghssan has used her writing and communication skills to bring awareness to the impacts that the Palestinian occupation has had on young women. She has also been instrumental in facilitating the opportunity for young Palestinian men and women to converse and connect by organizing various initiatives in her community. Aghssan is presently the Media Coordinator at Stop the Wall.
Getting her start while attending Khartoum University, Walaa was elected as the first female president of the school's Student Union in 2007. In collaboration with other female students, she was a founding member of the Female Students' Initiative, advocating for women's rights on campus. Since then, Walaa has become a dedicated lawyer and women's rights activist leading the SIHA's Sudan Program
