Introducing a new infosheet: permanent residency
Permanent residency comes with a bunch of advantages. Foreigners don’t need work permits, when unemployed they can receive social benefits and are covered by the public health insurance. Read more on how to apply for it in our new infosheet.

 At the movies - Summer cinema with Kino Scala
For the next two months, Kino Scala is screening a selection of movies in the atmospheric outdoor environment of the Governor’s Palace. Here are some of the films you can look forward to on a beautiful Brno summer evening.

Expats' voice
Remember the festival of French culture Bonjour Brno? It takes place every year in the spring and is organized by Alliance francaise. Next year they would like to present artists from all countries where French language is spoken. CTP| DoksyRace 2015 triathlon (1,9 – 90 – 21 kms) will take place at Máchovo jezero on Sunday, August 9. You can set up a team of up to 7 people, or you can undertake the whole track as an individual. There also will be a mini-triathlon for kids.

Authors' reading month
Jul 1 - Aug 4, Husa na provázku Theatre, Zelný trh 9
This Central European literary festival introduces two authors every day: a local author (CZ, SK, PL) and an author from a guest country, this year Ukraine. A month-long festival accompanied by film projections, exhibitions and concerts is a summit of leading intellectuals.

Summer in the city

Every summer Friday there will be a special programme for kids and adults in Moravské náměstí. This week you can enjoy an art workshop, dance lessons, live music, burgers and steaks BBQ, Moravian wine or home-made lemonade.
Poisonous plants exhibition
till Jul 5, Medicinal Herbs Centre, Údolní 74, 9 am - 6 pm
A specialized botanical garden of the Faculty of Medicine invites you to an exhibition focused on poisonous plants. You can see the biggest collection of live medicinal herbs in the Czech Republic (more than 800 species), together with a variety of toxic plants.

F scene: Ondráš militrary artistic group
Jul 9+10, Old Town Hall, Radnická 8, 8 pm
As part of the open-air folklore evening cycle in the historical centre of Brno, the Ondráš folklore ensemble will perform traditional music, songs and dancing. Get familiar with the only Czech professional group of its kind supported by the Ministry of Defence.
Mendel: the legacy
Jul 20, Old Brno Abbey, Mendlovo nám. 1, 7 pm
Celebrate 150 years since Gregor Mendel first discovered the principles of genetics with a visual spectacular projected on the Augustinian Abbey where he conducted his research. Register your free ticket at mendelthelegacy@gmail.com by July 17.

Guided tasting of two wineries from different subregions with an explanation of what makes wine different, food paired with wine prepared by the best Brno restaurants and live music for listening and dancing. Get your tickets here.

Sculptures in the streets

The exhibition presents a topic "object – dwelling, sculpture – architecture" this year. It is presented in a number of author approaches, you can for example see The Origin of an Atoll in the park behind The Brno House of Arts or Suburbie Landscape 2015 in Moravské náměstí.

To live beer exhibition
until Dec 31, Špilberk Castle, Špilberk 1, 9 am - 5 pm
What was medieval beer made of? Where was the first pub in Brno? How many breweries are there in Brno? Find out at this year's main Špilberk exhibition and get a discount for the Starobrno brewery tour.
