Happy Holidays from Al, Our MLC President!
Now that I have been onboard four months as the MLC President, I thought I would share some information and thoughts with you.

First, I want to officially welcome Allison DeVries to the MLC as our new General Coordinator.  In this capacity, she will assume all the roles of our previous Coordinator position except for website, social media and newsletter responsibilities.  Allison brings a high level of experience, intelligence, and contagious enthusiasm to the MLC.  We are fortunate to have her as a team mate.

Second, we have a new position, Website Coordinator, which is being handled by Lauren Stewart, our former Coordinator.  As Website Coordinator, Lauren will handle all updates to our website, social media, and newsletter.  This allows time for Lauren to manage her expanding journalism career.

Third, I must tell you that my first few months of MLC involvement leaves my mind spinning with the overall experience, dedication, and enthusiasm of our members and leaders.  Our Board has been working hard on the MLC Hoshin with secondary Hoshins being completed by the key Teams:  Annual Conference, Events, Membership, and Volunteering.  Our 2019 will be well planned and exciting!  It will be especially fulfilling for you as members with not only events for you to attend, but also the opportunity for you to lend your many talents in the form of volunteering.  Please give this your thoughtful attention and contact Christine Muscat, our Volunteer Team Co-Lead (ChristineMuscat@amrock.com).

I cannot over-emphasize the energy that is building around our growth potential.  Our organizational plans show more events, more members (particularly organizational members), plus a great need for more volunteers.  We will need to perform as we espouse, in a lean manner with robust systems and tools.  Your participation in providing event ideas, joining Teams, and lending a helping hand will be greatly appreciated!

I hope many of you have had the chance to experience some of our recent events:  August Annual Conference, Grand Rapids Lean Annual Conference, Coffee Chats, and lean training sessions.  Please look forward to the Kata Immersion Course in Muskegon on January 29 and our Year-Beginning Conference in the 1st Quarter.

Finally, I wish all of you a blessed holiday season with your family and friends.

News From The Events Team
Karyn Ross speaking at one of our fantastic events this year!
The MLC has reformed its Event Planning team. The team is co-lead by Alen Ganic (Inventory and Asset Manager, City of Grand Rapids) and Pam Kenney (Continuous Improvement Specialist, State of Michigan, Department of Technology, Management and Budget, Office of  Performance Management).

The Event’s Team is made up of over 20 MLC member volunteers from across the state and represents many different industries across the State of Michigan. We have a great representation to ensure we can listen to our member needs for event offerings.

The team has already met several times and is working hard to fill out the calendar of events for 2019. In addition to our Annual MLC conference, the events offered will include:
  • The Annual Healthcare Symposium
  • The Grand Rapids Lean conference (this fall was our first annual – and it was a hit!)
  • 4 to 5 Kata Practitioner events planned throughout the year
  • A 4-hour Kata immersion course, and
  • Lean Coffee events throughout the year and at varying locations
The MLC will continue to offer the Lean Bronze certification course, and are working on offering webinars on hot topics throughout the year, as well!

It will be an exciting year of topics and events offered to our members and future members! Please check the MLC website for updates as the 2019 Calendar of Events becomes updated. Also,  we welcome your input and feedback on events that you would like to see offered by the MLC. The MLC would love to hear from you if you’ve suggestions or questions. Please feel free to contact:
