Start thinking about 2016 MLC Board Elections!

The election cycle for new MLC Board members will begin in May 2016 when nominations are opened up. Now is the time to consider running for an elected position or thinking about nominating a qualified candidate. It is expected that nominees will have demonstrated past commitment and participation in MLC events, projects, training, or other endeavors.

The MLC Board of Directors is a working Board, and positions are not compensated. Board members must be willing and able to participate in four face-to-face meetings each year in various Michigan locations, in addition to a regular cadence of conference calls.

MLC Bylaws allow for the annual election of a subset of the board, which provides an element of continuity and facilitates an orderly transition. This year we will be electing three Board members for 3-year terms. 

The election process is administered by the Board Secretary with oversight by the entire Board of Directors.

The 2016 elections schedule is as follows:
  • 1st Monday in May (5/2/16): The Board Secretary will send an electronic communication to all MLC members opening up Board Member nominations specifying the open positions. Members can be nominated or can self-nominate.
  • 2nd Friday in May (5/13/16): Nominations close. Names are compiled and nominees are notified.
  • 4th Monday in May (5/23/16): Nominees must acknowledge their acceptance to the Election Committee and submit a bio or resume and answer standard background/position questions.
  • 1st Monday in June (6/6/16): The Election Committee will compile the list of nominees with accompanying background information to be sent with an election ballot to all MLC members.  
  • 3rd Friday in June (6/17/16): Voting closes and ballots are returned to the Election Committee.
  • 4th Monday in June (6/27/16): The Secretary will tally the votes and the Elections Committee will certify the count. Only the top vote getter from any organization can fill an open position (i.e. – if one company has two nominees, only the top vote getter of these two can occupy an open Board position).
  • 2nd Friday in July (7/8/16): The winning nominees are notified of the election results.
  • 3rd Friday in July (7/15/16): Winning nominees will notify the Election Committee of their acceptance or non-acceptance of the position. New Board Member onboarding begins with incoming Board members invited to begin attending Board conference calls.
  • 4th Monday in July (7/22/16): Any non-acceptance will result in making an offer to the next highest votegetter.
  • August (8/3/16): New Board Members are announced and introduced at the Annual Conference
