This is a really great book.
In defiance of the onslaught of "Best of This Year" lists, I just want to offer up one really badass book that you should try to find and read. I don't even know if it's in print, but it's out there.
"This book was written without the approval of the Stones." The great (and still kickin'!) A.E. Hotchner, aka Hotch, writes a damning portrait of the cult of celebrity, the idealism of a generation, and how it all came to head at the now-infamous Altamont concert. Additionally, his unsettling piecing-together of the night Brian Jones died is not for the faint of heart and will give you a bone-chilling perspective of Mick Jagger. The book has no patience for nostalgia, and it is tirelessly researched (Hotch don't mess around). A must-read for any fan of the Stones, anyone who lived through the times, and anyone seeking an understanding of the power of myth, music, and status on our culture.
Let me know what you think if you pick it up!
