Spring 2017 Italy Trip

The Harlaxton College class of Spring 2017 wrapped up their semester with a ten day trip to Italy, visiting Rome, Florence and Venice. Students departed the Manor for the final time on April 20, flying to Italy before reuniting with family and friends in the states. Harlaxton College organizes two end-of-semester trips to Italy each term, with one starting in Rome and ending in Venice and the other vice-versa. One of the most favored trips by Harlaxton students, the Italy trip takes away the stress of booking such an extensive vacation while allowing them to see all the major cities in the country.

Spring 2017 Italy Trip
The first weekend of the Summer 2017 session was filled with visits to Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, the Tower of London and more. A two-hour coach ride from Harlaxton Manor, the trip to London welcomes students to the United Kingdom, allowing them to explore one of the largest and most lively cities in the world. Because of it's close proximity to Grantham, many students take day trips to the city throughout the semester and summer terms, oftentimes seeing shows on the West End or even visiting the Harry Potter Warner Bros. Studios.

York and Cambridge Day Trips
Summer students were found touring the historic 13th century Gothic Cathedral in York, punting on the rivers behind Cambridge University and enjoying Yorkshire pudding during their day trips to both York and the city of Cambridge. With rare sunny and warm English weather, students couldn't have chosen a more perfect time to explore the historic cities during the third weekend of the semester. Apart from the York Cathedral, the walled city is known for it's deep history, being founded by Romans in 71 A.D. The city of Cambridge is famous for housing the prestigious Cambridge University, home of King's College, where famous people like Stephen Hawking and Charles Darwin studied.
The Manor

News from the Manor Archives
Over 150 original building plans and stone masons' working drawings have been recently discovered in the attics of the Manor. Unfortunately many of these have deteriorated into a very fragile and fragmented states, but the College Librarian is currently photographing and cataloguing them. Initial photographs can be seen here. We welcome comments if you can recognize the relevant location of the Manor in any of the stonework drawings. Found alongside in the same attic was a small portrait of a Victorian lady in the late stages of mourning, possibly dated 1860-1870. Who was this mysterious lady? For more information check out the Harlaxton Manor Archives.

University of Evansville Harlaxton Alumni Visit
The Harlaxton University of Evansville alumni trip filled the Manor June 1-5. UE Harlaxton alumni came back to their forever home, while others got to experience Harlaxton for the first time. A special feature of the trip was the 3rd annual UE international alumni dinner on June 3. Alumni from across the US, Switzerland, Germany and other parts of the U.K. enjoyed a formal dinner together along with members of the Harlaxton advisory council.
