Dear Friends,
It's been quite a week at Hope House. An overflow tank attached to our furnace malfunctioned, spraying water onto the electronics. The result: no heat or hot water at Hope House for three days while technicians tried to figure out the problem.
I am asking for your help to cover the unexpected costs of this unfortunate event, which I estimate will be close to $5,000. Please donate at

The furnace parts alone are close to $3,000. Labor costs will also be significant. Our property manager has spent much of the last three days keeping pipes from freezing and diagnosing the problem with the furnace. Two different furnace companies worked on the heating system as well. And, we paid for Hope House residents to stay at a local hotel for a night until we could make other arrangements for the second night.

I am glad to report that the furnace is finally up and running again, three days after the initial malfunction. I am relieved that we can get back to focusing on our mission:  providing housing, English classes and other resources that support immigrants in transitioning to life in Greater Portland and in achieving their goals for a successful future.

I am grateful for everyone who stepped up to host our Hope House residents during these very cold days and nights. And, I thank each of you, in advance, for helping Hope Acts by donating at Every gift, in any amount, will help. Thank you for your generosity.
