Friends and colleagues also recently said goodbye to Ros Way, headteacher at Silverwood Chippenham who retired in April at the end of Term Four. Ros had been at the Chippenham Campus since September 2015, and is very much looking forward to the next stage of her life.
New Logo and Uniform Colour for Silverwood School
In March, following surveys with children at the school, their parent carers, teachers and school governors, the school chose a new logo and a new uniform colour to go with its new name and identity.
The new uniform colour will be burgundy and a working group has formed to design the new uniform policy. The new uniform will be launched from September 2021 and the school is communicating with parents to keep them informed about this change.
The school is also working on a new website and email addresses and the new website is expected to go live in term six.
School Build Co-production
Since our last newsletter there have been a series of co-production workshops and focus groups this spring and these have helped our construction partners and their architect to develop the concept design for the new build on the Rowde site into a detailed design ahead of the planning application.
These groups covered key themes including: Transport, Environment and Sustainability, and Health. The architects have also been working closely with the school staff to understand in detail how different spaces are used in the school in practice.
As we move into the final stage of the design process pupils will get involved in looking at how the new school that they have helped to design will look and feel using virtual technology. They will also get to know more about the many different types of roles and people who get involved in construction. Having played such a key role through the design process, pupils will have a real sense of ownership over the new building.
The planning application for the build at the Rowdeford site is progressing and will be available for consultation soon with opportunities to view the detailed plans for the build.
New SEND school for Salisbury
Reach South Academy Trust continue to work with the Department for Education and Wiltshire Council on the development of a new free school in the south of Wiltshire.
The former UTC building on Wilton Road in Salisbury is being reviewed to ensure it is a suitable new home for a 150 space SEND free school in south Wiltshire for learners with autism and social, emotional and mental health needs.
The UTC site will only be confirmed as the definite location for the new SEND free school once this process has been completed. Reach South is planning to begin a formal consultation on the new SEND school in the coming weeks, and if you have any feedback in the meantime, please contact freeschoolwilts@reachsouth.org
