Happy Month of Passion, Presidents and Parades,
February always feels like an awakening month for me. Emerging from the gray days of winter, we perk up post holidays with Valentine's Day, a long weekend for President's Day and in many parts of the world Carnival is celebrated with great costumes, music and dancing.
This month our eponymous newsletter #AlltheSwirl and blog www.alltheswirl.com covers our wide ranging interests at Charles Communications Associates beginning with an interview with Kyle Nadeau, the General Manager of San Francisco's Bank of Wine & Spirits at Wingtip, a gem within a jewel box of a store. Nadeau is the king of brown spirits and beyond, and he shares with us his path to success in our Ten Medium Intensity Questions series interview.
Ana Carolina Roselli, our Brazilian Sustainability Manager at CCA, shares an insiders guide to Carnival in her native Rio. As someone who has been to 3 of 4 Mardi Gras with the Krewe of St. Anne in the last few years, I may be flying further south the next time February rolls around. Obrigado Ana!
We're a bunch of hopeless romantics here at our offices in downtown San Francisco. We love Valentine's Day but pride ourselves on finding the more meaningful vs. commercial aspects of this holiday. As an extra love letter this year, we produced another Valentine's video for you to enjoy as a companion piece. Salud!
Finally, a funny "Rant" from our client Wine Hooligans which has been getting quite a lot of attention on social media as Head Hooligan Dennis Carroll shares the wine industry equivalent of a blind date, the "work with." Prepare to laugh or cry, your choice.
Enjoy our Must Reads this month from the team, and here's to welcoming the Year of the Monkey officially!

Since Kyle Nadeau's first taste of Port Ellen Single Malt Scotch just over ten years ago, the "whisky guru" and General Manager of The Bank of Wine & Spirits at Wingtip has devoted countless energy and hours to souring the best distilled elixirs the world has to offer. Thousands of whiskies later, Nadeau is considered one of the most informed whisky palates in the country.
When Some say the year only really begins in Brazil after Carnival, and I dare say that they are right. Imagine a patient whose heart suddenly stops beating out of exhaustion. That's Brazil right after the insane New Year's parties. Doctors rush into the room and the anticipation builds while the defibrillator charges. That's January, the month of barely any action and lots of anticipation.

Here at Charles Communications, we obviously talk about wine, a lot. But when thinking hard about what it is in a wine that draws us (and others) to a glass of the stuff, it didn't take long to realize that each of us are intrigued, no, enticed by different characteristics of some seductive wines.

Disclaimer: this rant will only be meaningful to industry insiders. However, it's one of the best examples of why selling wine in the United States is one of the strangest, most archaic, socially awkward, humiliating and straight up funny experiences anyone can have while trying to build a wine brand.
'Tis the season of love. The ladies at CCA (and one special guest) wish you all a joyful belated Valentine's Day, and remind you to put away that phone, tablet, or laptop and grab someone's hand with a Love Letter from San Francisco.
