Bozeman Author Mark Sullivan
Book Talk and Book Signing
 Thursday, November 3rd, 7 PM

Wheatgrass Books will host Bozeman author Mark Sullivan for a reading and book talk Thursday, October 13th at 7 pm.
Mark Sullivan is the acclaimed #1 bestselling author of nineteen novels, including The Last Green Valley, Beneath a Scarlet Sky, and Silver Stars in The Sky, which is forthcoming in 2023. Mark has also written five #1 bestselling novels with James Patterson.
Mark has received numerous awards for his writing, including the WHSmith Fresh Talent Award, and his works have been named a New York Times Notable Book and a Los Angeles Times Best Book of the Year. He grew up in Medfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from Hamilton College with a BA in English before working as a volunteer in the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa. Upon his return to the United States, he earned a graduate degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and began a career in investigative journalism.
Mark will read from and discuss two of his most recent books, The Last Green Valley and Beneath A Scarlet Sky, and will talk about his forthcoming in 2023 book set in Uganda, Silver Stars in The Sky.
The Last Green Valley is the story of WWII refugees running from the Ukraine with Soviet forces chasing. It is based on a real-life story that focuses on the Martels, a Ukrainian family that fled Europe during Stalin’s and Hitler’s rule and began an arduous migration to freedom in Montana.
Beneath A Scarlet Sky is a based on the true story of a forgotten hero, Pino Lella, a teenager in WWII Italy who helps Jews escape over the Alps, and has the opportunity to spy for the Allies inside the German High Command.
Mark Sullivan has been blessed to live in Bozeman and the last green valley with his wife, Betsy, and their children for more than twenty-three years. In his spare time, he can be found skiing at Big Sky in the winter, having fun on Flathead Lake in the summer, and believing that every day is a miracle.

A loud note of thanks to
Megan Eubank who designed a new logo for the bookstore. Two of the elements in the logo are Bluebunch Wheatgrass, which is Montana's state grass, and the Western Meadowlark, the state bird.
John James Audubon gave the Western Meadowlark its scientific name, Sturnella (starling-like) neglecta, claiming that most explorers and settlers who ventured west of the Mississippi after Lewis and Clark had overlooked this common bird.
  • The meadowlark was chosen as the State bird of Montana in 1930 by a vote of the school children of the state. By an act of the Montana Legislature, the western meadow lark was adopted as the official state bird on March 14, 1931.

This month's pick:

The Wall by Marien Haushofer
First published to acclaim in Germany, The Wall chronicles the life of the last surviving human on earth, an ordinary middle-aged woman who awakens one morning to find that everyone else has vanished. Assuming her isolation to be the result of a military experiment gone awry, she begins the terrifying work of survival and self-renewal. This novel is at once a simple and moving tale and a disturbing meditation on humanity.
