Why the blockchain?
To Design Change
It looks like the financial industry is moving into blockchain. We are seeing an integration of existing financial products, existing financial institutions, existing financial services (Nasdaq, but also Ripple, Stellar etc). But what they are doing is only replicating sedentary economics and politics, translating them as such, so nothing changes. From our perspective this integration is just the beginning: Crypto-technologies enable the creation of any kind of equity relations by the so-called smart contract. What's truly facing us is the possibility to redesign the functions of finance from the ground up, locally and globally. In the world that is rightly critical of its financial reality, we have in our hands the tools to create new finance, in any shape or form. New economic space.
RH has been taking part in important cryptocurrency blockchain development meetings. The first one of the three day events was held in January at MIT and Harvard, continuing at Stanford University and Institute for the Future, in March. A selected group of key technology players, thought leaders, lawyers, and entrepreneurs around the globe gathered to work together.
The focus was to push forward blockchain technologies at different fronts. We examined the interplay between blockchain technologies and society, the legal hurdles and the positive changes that can be created with it.
We are convinced that blockchain technologies will help us update the cooperative form into this century, increase its flexibility, its p2p nature and the options our members have at hand. Akseli gave a presentation at Harvard and Stanford. We made a lot of new friends.
