QUELQUES NOUVELLES EN BREF
1. - Despite migraine being the third most prevalent illness worldwide, the underlying causes of the condition have been unclear. Now, in what is deemed the largest genetic study of migraine to date, researchers have uncovered 28 new genetic variants that may fuel migraine development. This opens the door for new medical treatments and opportunities.
2. – HIGH FIBER DIET ENRICHED WITH VITAMIN A:
A new study published in the journal Cell Reports states that a high-fiber diet rich in vitamin A may alter gut bacteria in a way that could prevent or reverse food allergies. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), between 1997-2007, the number of children and adolescents in the U.S. with food allergies rose by around 18 percent, though the reasons for this are unclear. The new study suggests there may be a simple way to prevent or reverse food allergies: a high-fiber diet, enriched with vitamin A. Experts indicate that a diet low in fiber could be driving food allergies and that adopting a high-fiber diet - enriched with vitamin A - could be way to lower food allergy risk.
3. - Changes to the understanding of Parkinson’s Disease.
The death of brain cells in Parkinson's disease is likely a result of stress in their endoplasmic reticulum or protein-folding machinery rather than just a general failure of their mitochondria or powerhouses. In the new study, the researchers suggest a general breakdown of mitochondria is not the complete picture of what goes on inside cells in Parkinson's disease. Instead, they suggest stress on the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) - and its knock-on effect on mitochondria - is the key event.
4. –MEDICATION COMPLIANCE IN ELDERLY:
As they get older, some seniors find it gets more difficult to keep track of their medications, and little insight is available as to why and how this occurs, and what tactics can be implemented to combat this phenomenon. A new recent study sought to address this gap in research, characterizing the patients in medical practice most likely to require assistance with medical compliance. The study concluded that participants aged 80 and over were 1.5-3 times more likely to need help with managing medication as those in the 65-69 age groups. Also, men were 1.5-2 times more likely to need help as women, and those experiencing memory problems were 3-5 times more likely than those without memory issues. The researchers suggest this brief scale of predictors may help clinicians identify which patients may need help with medication management.
Bonne semaine a tous.!
