Hospital Spotlight: Grinnell Regional Medical Center
In January 2008 Grinnell Regional Medical Center (GRMC) Nurse Manager, Sheryl Baarda read a publication from ACOG defining a nationally recognized standard of excellence to promote quality and consistent care for maternity patients seeking elective induction or c-section. Sheryl discussed it with the physician who was the OB Physician Committee chair at that time and they later presented it to all the physicians who delivered babies. After unanimous approval that should be the standard of practice at GRMC, they implement a new policy that stated elective inductions of labor or scheduled Cesarean sections would not be performed prior to 39 weeks, 0 days unless medical indications for induction were present.
