Choosing Wisely

Choosing Wisely® is a national initiative of the ABIM Foundation to spark conversations between providers and patients to ensure the right care is provided at the right time.  Through participating organizations, including more than 60 professional medical societies, Choosing Wisely has been able to offer resources for both providers and patients focusing on the latest evidence-based recommendations and best practices.  These resources can be valuable tools in the effort to improve care and eliminate unnecessary testing and procedures.
  • Things Providers and Patients Should QuestionLists of specific, evidence-based recommendations from healthcare provider organizations that providers and patients should discuss in order to make decisions about most appropriate care.  Includes “Top 5” recommendations for providers and supporting patient education materials.
  • High Value Care (HCV) Initiative– Free online continuing education made available through Choosing Wisely and the American College of Physicians.  Consists of five online cases and questions, each lasting 30-60 minutes, with free CME and ABIM Maintenance of Certification credits.
  • Choosing Wisely in Iowa – Specific Choosing Wisely information and resources for Iowans, including the “Iowa 5” top recommendations for Iowa providers developed by Iowa stakeholders, as well featured information for Iowa patients.
