Drumbeat: Learning Community & Annual Conference Registration

Registration for the HEN Learning Community and Annual Conference is live.  The meetings will be held on August 27th and 28th at the Meadows Event & Conference Center in Altoona, IA. For brochures and registration, please see the information in the paragraph below this header.

A couple of important notes on the HEN Learning Communities & Annual Conference:
  • Just like the June Learning Community, due to CMS regulations and the recent pressure of government sequestration, we can longer provide coffee and food at CMS funded conferences.  This will be for the HEN Learning Communities only and does not include the IHC Annual Conference.
  • We have expanded lunch time to 1 hour and 15 minutes and IHC will  provide a list of food restaurants near by.  There is also a Starbucks & cafe on site.
  • It is now FREE to attend the Learning Communities. There will not be a $50 registration fee for the LC.
  • There is a roomblock at the Meadows Hotel for the conference.

HEN Learning Community VII - August 27th

This installment of the HEN Learning Community (LC) will feature a keynote presentation by Steve Siemens, a Certified Speaking Professional from the National Speakers Association and founder of Siemens People Builders. Steve recently served as the International President for Kiwanis International, a member of the Board of Governors for the Iowa Easter Seals and has served as Chairman of the Board for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

We live in a world of change. If people and organizations are going to stay on the cutting edge, they must have a willingness to take risks, fail, try new things and change. Once you have stepped across the line, gotten out of the box and started thinking differently, you will be one of those people who will change. You will appreciate his interactive, humorous, and motivational style. Steve has been referred to as one of the best motivators in the world today.

10th Annual Conference - August 28th

The tenth edition of the annual conference will feature a keynote presentation titled “Repainting the Landscape of Medicine: Achieving Perfection in a Human System” by John Nance, renowned health care and aviation expert, and author of “Why Hospitals Should Fly.”  Trying to “zero” human mistakes is a fool’s errand. Minimizing mistakes and then using collegial teams to zero the effect of residual mistakes in the key.  Mr. Nance shares his solutions to sustainable high reliability and high quality care in a human system.

Preceding Nance’s keynote is Regina Holliday, founder of The Walking Gallery and the Medical Advocacy Mural Project. As a national patient safety advocate, Regina addresses the health care urgency in empowering the patients in the care episodes by making better use of visuals, social media, and timely access to electronic medical records.
