Empowering young homeless mothers with the skills, confidence, and support to make a better life for themselves and their children.

Crossroads Update

First, I'd like to review what this organization is all about to serve as a reminder of the impact you can have on these young moms and their children.   Crossroads Ministry is a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide safe, transitional housing to homeless, first time, single mothers and their babies that have neither a place to go nor the knowledge and training on how to get to a better way of life and off government support.  Yes, we focus on the mothers but their children are the future and they are the ones who will ultimately benefit from their moms having a place to live and loving, caring people willing to work with them on life skills, business training and the many other factors that come with generational issues.
But, until our renovation is complete Crossroads offers ‘Nurturing Skills for Families” parenting classes to DCS/Court-Ordered moms and dads who are hoping to regain custody or at least visitation of their children.  We worked with 45 parents last year, many of whom achieved their goal and we expect to work with even more this year.

Cora Rhew,

Executive Director

"This has been a great experience cause even though at first I didn’t think I would learn anything or this would be a waste of time, now I really hate that the class is over and I will miss everyone.  I’m glad there is a place like this that will take in and help people like us that need second chances."   Ashley
She has her children back and is working towards being a nurse.

Crossroads 5k Trail Run
At Clark Park

October 25, 2014 - Saturday
While a charitable event, the trail run will offer local men and women the opportunity for individual competition, and community involvement. Mother-daughter and multi-generational teams are encouraged to enter.

New Intern

Jenny Peyrot has been interning  since June and we are so blessed to have her.  She is working on updating our brochures and attending non-profit meetings with Cora. Working with the fundraisers is next.

Our Vision for the Future

Our vision for the future is that we will have a completely renovated building that includes six furnished apartments, a classroom/meeting room, teaching kitchen, laundry, nursery, playroom, and craft room. We will also offer an emergency single apartment and a counseling room.  As an added bonus there will be a garden area with fruit trees, flowers, vegetables and herbs which will promote organic gardening and healthy living to our moms that they will participate in. This safe place will serve as a transitional housing option for all those in need of a place to stay and would be available to each individual for up to three years. They would have to commit to a minimum of eighteen months to successfully complete the training in our program but we will also help them apply for jobs and or college if that's what they desire.

Your investment in the future of single mother’s lives would help us renovate a historical motel on the outskirts of Oak Ridge, in Anderson County that much sooner.  We can be reached at Crossroads Ministry, P.O. Box 6246, Oak Ridge, TN  37831 or donate using your PayPal account or charge card on our website.
