Training in the Bible and in Christian Experience
The Apostle Paul talked much about the need for training in the Christian life. Consider the following verse:
"The things which you have heard from me through many witnesses, these commit to faithful men, who will be competent to teach others also." 2 Timothy 2:2
Here we see that Paul had trained Timothy, and he charged Timothy to train others also.
Brother Watchman Nee was also faithful to pick up this matter of training from the Scriptures. He would often tell his co-worker Witness Lee, "Witness, we need the training." Later in his life, Witness Lee talked about these experiences with Watchman Nee in the book, The Normal Way of Fruit-bearing and Shepherding for the Building up of the Church. Below are some excerpts from Brother Lee's fellowship regarding the matter of training.
"Brother Nee was saved in 1920, and he began the work for the Lord in 1922. After a number of years, he realized that there was the need of training. In 1936 he bought a portion of land and built a center for the purpose of training. However, in August of the next year Japan invaded Shanghai, and the building was destroyed. Three years after that, in 1940, he rented a place in Shanghai to begin the first formal, year-round training."
In 1949 Witness Lee was sent to the island of Taiwan for the Lord’s work, and in 1952 he too began training the believers there. He said that, “The work in Taiwan depended mostly upon this training.” He later recalled some very helpful fellowship he gave in London in 1958 while attending a series of meetings at which he had been invited to speak. A young brother asked whether training was necessary or if it was sufficient for a believer to grow in life? Brother Lee responded, "We cannot train a monkey to pilot an airplane, because the monkey life is not good for this purpose. Only the human life can do this, but this does not mean that as long as we have the human life we can all pilot an airplane. If we believe this, we will damage many lives." He concluded, "Dear ones, by this we can see that we need the proper life plus the proper training. We should not insist on either extreme. Yes, we need life; without life we cannot carry out the spiritual things. However, this does not mean that as long as we have life we need nothing more. In addition to the proper life, we still need the proper training and practice.”

A Brief History of Amana Trust's
Amana Trust first acquired a training centre for short-term and residential trainings in London in 1997 and has now moved to our current location on the border of London and Essex. Bower House is a beautiful grade 1 listed building with adjoining classrooms, conference facilities, and accommodation. It hosts a two-year, full-time residential Bible course as well as numerous one-day, weekend, and one-week events. In addition to Bower House, Amana Trust also owns the Amana Trust Book Shop in Central London, near Kings Cross station, where we also hold seminars and small Bible studies.
To date, over 1,000 individuals from 21 European countries and another 16 countries from outside Europe have participated in our one-week trainings, many of them more than once. However, the space of the facility at Bower House is still not adequate to care for this great need. We therefore have sought and gained permission to build a wonderful new training facility in the grounds of Bower House. We have also recently acquired a Woodland Camp, ten minutes from Bower House by car, where we can host further residential Christian events in lovely countryside surroundings.
