What if our attempts to help the poor can actually hurt them?

 "When Helping Hurts"

Understanding the principles in the book "When Helping Hurts" is essential for anyone interested in engaging in missions, either locally or globally. The subtitle, "How to Alleviate Poverty without Hurting the Poor...and Yourself," points to the necessity of understanding one's proper role in the helping process. While the desire to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ is the necessary starting point, a Christian needs to understand what actions are genuinely helpful and what may do harm to the relationship.

This year's Bolivia mission team will be studying the book and watching very insightful and moving videos on alternating Wednesday evenings at 7:30. All members of the Parkway family are encouraged to attend, but especially if you are committed to supporting the team or interested in engaging in some form of missions action, either now or in the future.

Future dates are  March 8 and 22, April 12 and 26, and May 10.
Parkway Hiking Club

Do you enjoy walking outdoors? Looking for a way to connect more with others from Parkway or invite friends to meet our family? Trying to stick to that New Year’s resolution to get/stay healthy? Then here’s a great opportunity to reach your goal while learning about the wonderful trails in the Atlanta area.

Our new hiking club will choose a variety of hikes (easy to moderate) on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. We will always meet at the hiking location but you feel  free to carpool with others. Please note the times we will be meeting at the designated trail parking lots.

A link will be included for directions and parking information. The March hikes will be:

March 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Big Creek Greenway from Rock Mill Park (3100 Kimball Bridge Rd, Alpharetta)
March 25 at 9:00 a.m. at Vickery Creek Trail (another Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area trail requiring $3 parking fee). Address: 259 Riverside Rd, Roswell.

Ladies Morning Bible Study

Ladies Evening Bible Study
Study on Contemplative/Meditative Prayer
Begins on Monday, March 13 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

The Women's Committee is hosting a study for all women on the contemplative/meditative prayer practices from the book "Creating a Life with God: The Call of Ancient Prayer Practicesby Daniel Wolpert".  Some types of prayer that we will study and practice are Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina, The Jesus Prayer, The Examen, Guided Imagery, Body Prayer and Apophatic Prayer. These prayer practices are ways of praying used in various Christian traditions for centuries that have proven valuable in nurturing the spiritual life and can provide a variety of ways to broaden and deepen our means of relating to God.  They “invite you to solitude and silence, to use your mind and imagination, to use your body and creativity and to connect with nature and community”. This study will be offered on Monday evenings  and will conclude by the last Monday in April.  We will use the Welcome Center door and meet in the choir room.
It is not necessary to buy this book but it can be purchased from Amazon.  The Kindle edition is $7.99, new paperback is $10 and there are new and used offers through other sources for about $5 but these do take a couple of weeks to receive.  Handouts will be provided but you can learn a bit about these practices on the internet.
